Hello,
I'm in trouble with sansa e260 mp3 player. Screen is black and only blue ring light works. I can't go to recovery mode. It just doesn't work. When I connect it to a computer, then I can't see from c drive that mp3 is connected. I have to hold down the big black button while connecting, then comes sound from the speakers that I have plugged mp3. If I don't hold that button, then the sound won't come. Well, when I go to control panel -> devices and printers , I can see Tango digital media platform, but that doesn't help me, does it? I really have no idea what to do, beacause recovery mode doesn't work and computer can't find my device.

As long as it's not the "rhapsody" model, try this guide http://anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31275
Edit: BTW you'll have to install Linux or run it off a CD, there's good guides on that at Linux site.

AFAIK it's the only thing you can do at this point and it has worked for others, there's a few other checks you could try but it does sound like this is the best route from your description.

What's the procedure if it's the "R"?
Also, I swapped out a daughter card so is the procedure chosen based on the daughter card or to the unit? |

I've never seen it done on the "R" series but maybe you can find more info here.
I don't think so but I never had the "R" series so don't know much about it.

Daughter card. Although if you swapped the daughter cards incorrectly, you will get the Tango media platform. I would double check that you've inserted the cards firmly.

Thanks Saratoga,
So to confirm, if I took a DC out of a non-R player and put it in the R player then it's no longer an R player right? I have a couple of Non-R's with broken headphone jacks so I swapped one out. I'm planning to try the e-200 tool again tonight. |

Correct. The card is the "r" or "non-r" part.

I have changed daughter cards but I still can't get ubuntu to mount the drive. I follow the procedures, but after the blue ring flashes using the e200 tool it's supposed to mount my sansa in recovery mode and it is not mouning. Is this a hardware problem or is it user error in ubuntu?

If you get the blue ring after swapping daughter cards it probably means you did something wrong. Usually the blue ring happens if the firmware isn't loaded, either because the flash is erased or the daughtercard didn't power on.

actually, it was already Blue Ring of Death. I swapped a known good Daughter card in to it and is still doing it. I try to use the e200 tool but at the part where the blue ring is supposed to flash and then boot to recovery mode, nothing happens.
