I'd still pass on both of those (ATH-A700 & AD700).

I've toyed with the idea of getting the A700 at tax time next spring....

Thanks. Will do that.

I will be going to both the places tomorrow for demos.

BTW there is a 80 ohm DT770 on Amazon.
Not the first search results but they're there.
Well i meant AD700 only. i also saw A700. Indeed it is confusing which ones are which. But since it is open and not good on bass, i will give both of them a skip.

Can you please confirm if 80ohm DT770 will be good with the sources i mentioned?

thanks

The DT700 is said to sound excellent, but I'm not too sure how well they get powered by a portable mp3 player. I was considering them, but I chose the Pro700mk2 instead - I'm happy with my choice.

I will add one thing tho, and that's the fact that the DT700 is a much more comfy can than what I have. I never listened to them, but I tried them on fit-wise. You'd be able to sleep with them on - they are THAT COMFORTABLE.

Now, the Pro700mk2 can run off any source btw. So a clip+, iPod, a cellphone, all can easily power the Pro700mk2 to deafining volume levels.

Still, I love the sq and tank toughness of my Pro700mk2's, I'll actually keep these!!!

Lots of people are changing the stock pads to m50 pads or making other changes. Can you throw some light on it. Is it absolutely needed or stock is just as good?

thanks

How is Denon hp700 and Ultrasone DJ1?

I didn't do the pad swap on my Pro700mk2's, as the M50 pads are larger than the stock pads. I'm gonna hit up B&H Photo soon and see what pads I can swap them for tho,...then I'll post what they are. I really want velour pads btw!!!

As for me, I did a small mod to make 'em comfy for me: http://anythingbutipod.com/forum/sho...postcount=5932

Small update:

I went to Guitar Center yesterday to try some. But they don't have any demo pieces for any headphones. There were some good deals though, mostly same price headphones as available online. I almost bought the KRK 8400 but i read Syndrome's view on it and other reviews and it doesn't' have enough bass. I almost bought the DT770 80 ohm, but the box seemed to have been opened and since i was paying $200 for it, i thought for that price i may as well as get it online and a brand new one at that.

They didn't have pro700mk2 and many more. So i am still back to square one.

Remember that Guitar Center will price match to online prices. If you go in there with a laptop or even make them look it up on their computers you can get a better deal from them.

Thanks i will keep that in mind.

Any view on AKG K181 DJ headphones? A couple of reviews say it has good bass. Is it a good buy?

Or is DT770 80 ohm a good buy at $170?

I had the TMA-1, and I own the HD25-1 II & pro700mk2. I liked the TMA-1, but I kept the HD25-1 II (I compared both before sending mine back). But, to be fair, the headband being too loose on my TMA-1's was a major factor for me as well. But, I liked the SQ of the Senn's better.

I tested a few HP's today" the Sony EB500 came out a real SQ winner. The beats solo sounded like crap, Sony MDR-ZX700 was flat & lifeless - the bass was nonexistent, and of course the skullcandy crap was EXTRA CRAPPY!!!

The Sony XB500 kicked sone serious SQ BUTT!!!

Even though they look a bit silly, the EB500 are actually sound quite nice and can compensate somewhat for players that have rolled off bass at the headphone jack.

I agree. Also, the sound staging is immense on the EB500,...totally impressive IMO.

Is it XB500? I didn't find any phones with EB500.

If it is XB500, i heard a demo at best buy with my galaxy s phone and found not enough bass. have to try with my s616 player.

It's the XB500, my bad. And I demoed them at Staples by my house a few days ago. I used my Motorola Atrix 4G w/PowerAMP - I found the SQ very good, and the bass was BOOMIN'!!! I guess I like them, you might not.

Did you use the stock player on your phone? Samsung has the SQ toned down on my SGP 5.0, I wonder if it's the same with your phone.

Darkside, you like the XB500 better than the XB700? I seem to recall that you had the XB700. How does the XB500 compare to the V6? How does it compare to the ATH-M35?

The XB500 has more bass & has better sound staging than the V6. It's just a better all around fun headset. It's not studio, so its a party beast! If you can get it for $50 or less it's well worth it IMO.

I've never heard the m35 though, so I can't answer that one. But, compared to the sq of my pro700mk2 it's decent, but the mk2 is the closer to the m50. I'll go w/the mk2 any day.

If the xb500 didnt have enough bass for you then you are SOL my friend. You have to keep in mind that even the bassiest headphone will not give you the visceral effect of an actual subwoofer. The XB500 is one of, if not THE, biggest bass sets around. It is more likely your player settings at that point. try tweaking it or downloading poweramp and EQing some,
