Default How to Flash / Unbrick Zen Touch 2 (Stuck at "Welcome to Maple")

In an attempt to enable market support on my Zen Touch 2 I have replaced the home screen with a screen that says "Welcome to Maple" which seems designed for a telephone. This has essetnially bricked my device for the time being. More details on the attempted process can be found in this thread.

For now here are the basics of the problem and attempted solutions:

*Can only access a useless emergency dialer and mobile network settings; the standard home screen apps, settings, and file system are not accessible.

*I can still view and edit files on the device via USB, but I have not yet been able to get root access over USB (I am currently working on doing this with the Android SDK, with a tool called adb.exe - no success yet).

*I have tried all options in the recovery console with no success. Loading update.zip returns the error "E:Can't mount EXTSD:update.zip"

So, my thinking from this point is that the best soultion would be to flash the firmware and reinstall Android clean. Anybody have any advice on how to go about doing this??
