I am not familiar with either of those, sorry. I will say that sound signature preference is more about personal taste than your genre though. two people can listen to the same music and have very different expectations of how it should sound. take your phone into a local store and try out what they have to get a feel for the differences in sounds.

I've never tried these, so I don't know myself,... But, of those 2 choices, I'd go with the cheapest option - the Audio Technicas.

Where can you get the PX80? For how much? I thought the PX80 disappeared long ago.

the price for ath-sj11 is 40$ and px80 45$ .. i still can afford the px80 if the sound is better than the sj11.. i cant find any local store near my place that can "try the headset first before buying" , so i have to buy it first before i know the sound so i just ask to the forum which one is better.. can anybody in here describe the characteristic sound of sj11 and px80 ?? |

I thought the PX80 was discontinued but it seems like there are recent posts about it in India. Perhaps it is not discontinued, but instead a model made just for the Asian market? There is a utube review. Do a Google search. You will find some reviews of the PX80. Some claim the PX80 doesn't sound as good as the PX100. I guess that makes sense, as it has a lower model number. Some others claim the PX80 is the same as the original PX100. Since the original PX100 was so good, I tend to believe the PX80 might not be as good. Who knows though. it might be different, and not necessarily worse. Some Sennheiser headphones are more balanced toward bass, while others are more treble heavy. Can you get the PX100 or PX100 mk2? If the price on those is close to the PX80 price, I say get a PX100 or PX100 mk2.

I never tried the sj11. I have the original PX100. Does the store wiith the PX80 have a good return policy, or once you buy it you are stuck with it? Are you in India?
I see a store in India selling the PX80 for 1777 Rs., which is around $36. It isn't clear if that includes shipping. http://www.naaptol.com/price/728942-...Headphone.html |

I just looked up the ATH-sj11. It looks very bulky. I wouldn't want to walk around wearing that. The Sennheiser PX100 or PX80 is much more compact. Another choice would be earbuds though. The Sennheiser MX580 looks like a good deal for the price. In the US it is around $25. I have the MX560, which is similar, but the MX560 lacks a volume control. I prefer walking around wearing earbuds rather than a headphone, however some people complain that earbuds fall out too easily. I don't like walking around wearing iems. I have the Sennheiser CX300 iems that I use at home.
Others will probably tell you that if you want a closed Audiotechnica headphone, you should get the ATH-35 or ATH-30 which are much more popular than the ATH-sj11. These are also quite bulky though, and imo are more suitable for home use than for portable use. The Sennheiser PX100 or PX80 is very portable. A good cheap headphone is the JVC HAS 160. In the US it is under $15. It isn't quite as good as the PX100, but is compact so it would be good for portable use. Last edited by JK98; 11-15-2011 at 02:32 PM. |

I've got ATH-SJ55 and if SJ11 sounds only half as good as mine - take them.
![]() @JK98: SJ11 are smaller than SJ55 and I don't have any problems with using them (55s) as portable headphones. But I can understand that some people can't stand anything larger than KPP or PX100 on their heads while walking on the street.
