Default Transferring Podcasts to Clip Zip

I've decided to use MediaMonkey to subscribe to podcasts and transfer the podcasts to my Clip Zip. But after spending an hour with the program, I can't figure out how to move the podcast files from the library to the Clip Zip. I tried copying and pasting but the program wouldn't let me do it.

How do I move the podcasts to my Clip Zip?

OK, the image is a little fuzzy.....you may want to full-size it.

Right-click the podcast itself and you start what you see there...then move the mouse and follow the path like you see there. It will move the actual file to the Zip, and then after listening, you can use the Zip's delete feature.

Got it, thanks. It moved the file to the Zip but to the Music folder, not to the Podcast folder. Is there a way to designate which folder the file should be moved to?

For some reason my Clip Zip doesn't show up on the third screen - just Administrator, C drive, D drive and F drive.

Your Zip must be in either MTP or Auto-Defect USB mode, in the settings menu. That's why it shows up as internal and external memory, instead of CLIPZ and H: drive like it does on my screen. Unless you are using Rhapsody or Audible services, which would need MTP support, switching to MSC mode is recommended. This way your player will appear as a removable drive as far as the PC is concerned.

Before you do this , make sure everything on the player is safely backed up on your computer, and then just format the player with its own format command, both internal and external memory. After this is done, switch to MSC in the USB mode settings directory, and reload your content.

At this point, your player will appear on the screen like mine does, and you can drop the podcasts right into the podcast folder.

This switch of USB modes is a bit of a PITA, but you'll most likely have avoided some grief in the future, especially if your player is currently in the Auto-Defect mode(and no, the "f" is not a typo).

Something to remember....in the future, when firmware updates are released, each time you apply one, the player will be back in Auto-defect mode after applying the firmware. However, you won't have to format and reload then, you'll just have to switch it back to MSC.

Thanks for that clear explanation Marvin. I too use Media Monkey to get my podcasts. I have my Clip Zip in MTP because I've only ever used MTP players previously. Id taken to getting the Podcasts via MM then dragging and dropping them to the podcasts folder under windows. However, maybe this is an excuse to try MSC?

Just an FYI for those that don't know as I forgot myself to tell someone the other day and he was lucky because he had a backup. Marvin says to back up because formatting will erase all your files on your player but at the same time can fix issues/problems like the one he suggest or even corrupted file issues. Because if you have some files in one mode and others in the other mode you will not be able to see all files.

I guess that is your call, whether or not you want to make the switch. If you're content with the way you've been doing things, maybe that's OK.

It's been said that the database refresh after you add or remove content is a little bit slower with MSC than MTP....I couldn't say for sure, but I do know that especially with older computers, MSC is much less likely to give you the "device not recognized" type errors than MTP.

The biggest thing is make sure you use either MTP, or MSC.....not Auto-Defect.

Yes,that's the biggest headache of the Auto-defect mode....the invisible files.
SanDisk seems to think Auto-defect makes the players more user-friendly, but I think it should be eliminated....other players offer the choice of MSC or MTP (Cowon, Samsung, etc) , no reason SanDisk couldn't follow suit.

You may have forgotten but that's the way they (SD) use to do it as well, auto-detect came along when the clip came along. Since they stopped fw development on the e200 series so they still have it that way, like my e260.

I did not know that. I never had one of those e200's....my first Sansas (actually, first mp3 players ) were the Fuze, and then the Clip, the year they came out. Just about 3 years ago now....

I was going to say that the original clip came that way too but honestly I can't remember the first fw and if it had it or not, but WTF cares

I used Marvin's suggestion and it worked perfectly. It makes Mediamonkey a breeze to use - much better than iTunes, which I was using previously.

To any newcomers to Sansa players reading this thread...

The very first thing you should do is to decide if MSC or MTP is the best choice for you (I vote MSC) and take your player off Autodetect (aka Autodefect). If you plan to use MP3Tag or Rockbox (or some other programs) then MSC is mandatory. This change has to be made every time the player is reset (eg firmware update). Do this before loading any content.

This is applicable to the Clip, Fuze, and Clip+ (based my ownership of these players), and to most other Sansa players (based on my reading at ABi).

Sorry Guys, I've checked my zip and it's at auto detect. So because my PC's both have WMP 11 on (Ones Vista ones XP) It is presumably detecting the zip as MTP. Presumably the danger now that a different PC may detect it as MSC, Then I'll have content added in different formats.

What is the issue with this, I assume you can still see all the tracks on the Player, just if it is recognised as MTP on a PC you can not see any of the content added as MSC on the PC?

Final Question. If I change USB setting to MTP, will I have to reload all the content? Or as it was loaded as MTP, with USB option set to Auto detect is it OK just to do the change? Sorry for this new to Sansa Players, all my Previous ones were Creative and all MTP. It feels good if a little confusing to have all this control!
