If the Clip+ is anything to go by (and it should be given the very similar hardware), you can throw pretty much anything at it that's reasonably easy to get going - and that's quite a lot of models. I'd only steer clear of known-demanding cans like K701s or orthos, or insensitive vintage 600 ohm models like K240Ms. Those easily bothered by hiss may not exactly want to use UM2s or other extremely sensitive IEMs.

Otherwise I've used everything from Shure SE420s (low impedance, sensitive) over my good old Sennheiser HD590s (medium impedance and sensitivity) to moderately sensitive 600 ohm antiques like HD420SLs. The latter already has me adjust the volume control near the very top when it comes to classical.

If I had some HD800s here, I'd use those, too. Unamped. About 100 dB SPL max is fine by me, and distortion into 300+ ohm loads is benign.

I would love to try something that high-end, to see if it really is that much more awesome.

Coming from grado's you might just love them, personally I didn't like them and prefer the HD650s sound sig.

Edit: BTW since you live so close to NY, I'd venture to say that you shouldn't have a problem giving them a listen at any local meet.

Ultrasone DJ1 with my grey 8GB Clip Zip!

Before my Clip+ died, I used a set of MEElectronics M6 IEMs with it, but those died too .

I like the Sony MDR-EX90LP or the MDR-EX500.
