I am disappointed. While it is lighter than the Clip+, it is thicker but without having longer battery life. It has AAC support and a very low resolution(96x96) color screen.
http://computershopper.com/mp3-playe...a-clip-zip-4gb This reviews says it is the same size as the Clip+ but heavier, while other reviews say it is the same size as the Clip+ but lighter. My guess is that it is the same size but lighter. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2391262,00.asp Last edited by JK98; 08-24-2011 at 09:50 AM. |

Does look kinda nice. Decent upgrade from the Clip+ without breaking the basic concept and thank god no sensor buttons either.

I was hoping that this time we'd get 8 and 16gb versions, rather than 4 and 8gb. Could have been a lot worse though. Don't think I'll be replacing the clip+ any time soon, anyway.

The screen is only 96x96 though, so I wonder how easy it is to read. Perhaps it might be harder to read than the Clip+ screen? Are there 6 separate buttons on front, or is there a back button and a toggle switch?

Pretty impressive I think, I'm unsure what any one wouldn't like. It's the perfect balance of updating the device and sticking to what makes it great. My only concern is that it may be difficult to see the screen in bright sun... something that the Clip+ handles fairly well.
Unfortunately I bought my Clip+ only a month and a half ago... I guess I'll keep it a year and then buy the next Clip4 Last edited by thanamesjames; 08-24-2011 at 10:23 AM. |

Coming out with a 4G and 8GB version makes sense. If the 8GB version sells well, then perhaps they may come out with a 16GB one soon. At least they didn't make a 2GB one. At $20 more than the the 4GB, the 8GB one doesn't make sense to me. For $20, you could get a 16 GB card. If they do make a 16GB one, what would they sell it for? Perhaps $100? Perhaps they should have skipped the 8GB, and had the 4GB at $50, and a 16GB one at $80. That would seem to make more sense. With flash memory so cheap, they could even discontinue the 4GB and drop the price of the 8GB to $50 in a few months. I guess Sandisk wants to have a player that will be discounted to $40 or under soon, so they made the 4GB.

I think a 4gb at $35ish, an 8gb at $50ish and a 16gb at $75ish would have been great. And I'm sure the difference in price to them between 8 and 16gb is only $6 or so. Coupled with a 16gb card, a 32gb portable player for under $100 would be great.
The colour screen doesn't really seem worth the (probable) battery hit, nor would I imagine it adds much functionality. If I were designing one myself, I'd have a mono colour oled screen, say white, that's invisible when nothing's being displayed (like those old silver or purple sony players). As for a 100$ player... you could buy the 4 gb for 50$ and by a legit 32gb, class 4 microsd card from amazon for 50$. |

Anyone get the firmware download to work? The link 404s for me and I want to see if its based on the Fuze+ hardware or the Clip+ hardware.
Edit: The link is http://mp3support.sandisk.com/firmwa...12.zip and its AS3525v2 based like the Clip+.

Fuze+ is not AMS based, I assume?

I believe I read somewhere that the Fuze+ had a SigmaTel chip, but i can't say for certain.

Fuze+ is based off some chip that freescale bought from (i think) Sigmatel and renamed the i.MX233. Its actually not bad either, but the Fuze+ port isn't nearly so far along.

Scads of professional and user reviews on the Clip Zip:

i'd love to pick up another 8gb clip+ if they go on clearance.
the clip zip is not much of an improvement over the clip+. while its nice to have a color lcd, the duotone oled screen suited me fine. i really hope they improved the build quality. |
