I think 64GB SDXC cards should already work with the Clip+ if you format them FAT32. AFAIK SDHC should be forwards compatible with SDXC, although it won't work if the card is exFAT formatted and you don't get the faster (theoretical) transfer rate.

FWIW theres no limit to how large internal storage can be, other then how much the manufacturer wants to pay for flash. The Clip+ actually uses standard SD (non-HC) for its internal memory, which of course is limited to 2GB. Doesn't stop them from making an 8GB clip, they just make it appear in software as 4x 2GB cards. No reason you can't make a 64GB clip as 32x 2GB cards, 2x 32GB cards, or 1 SDXC card. Other then cost of course.
