Default Sound quality iAudio 9 vs J3
Hi, I have read that Cowon's trademark sound quality is really set apart from other players. Has anyone been able to compare the SQ between the iAudio 9 and the J3. I am considering getting one of them, leaning towards the J3 based on the comments of the stellar SQ from this site, but also leaning to the iAudio cos I sort of prefer a smaller sized player.

Is it safe to assume that Cowon delivers the same sound technology in both players ?

I just lost my Sony A820, replaced it with the Clip2 which is great but it just doesn't have that extra something in the sq that transports you to another place.

Any tips appreciated.

Our administrator, dfkt, has said that they sound the same. They do have the same sound tech, the J3 has a nicer screen and longer-lasting battery, the i9 is smaller. The i9 has touchpad controls that drive some people nuts, and the J3 has a touchscreen and it also has some proper buttons as well.

Did you RockBox your Clip+, though? That can give you better sound with their EQ.

They sound the same, and the J3 is clearly the much better player in every other aspect (except maybe if one prefers the smaller size of the i9).

I'm about to rockbox the clip+ ... does that improve the sound quality ?

Merged the 2 threads that were the same thing and cleaned up the double posts. I agree w/others they sound the same but the i9 does not have an expansion slot and tops out at 16gb max so I'd go j3 if it's in your budget. Edit: and the j3 has a better battery life and better screen too ...
