Almost anything you want to know about it can be found in the ABi review of the device. For your ease and convenience, I'll pull it out for you...

Does anybody know what settings could work for cowon devices when using h.264 in Handbrake?
I just converted a small vid with a custom profile similar to that compatible with PSP and it didn't play on my C2... |

Handbrake cannot (easily) produce videos compatible with the S9/J3. As skip252 suggests, your best bet is to check out some of the guides that are sticky'd in this bit of the forum.

just for the record, mkv is container (as mp4, avi, mov, mpg and many many more). H264 on the other hand is codec, as well as xvid, dvix, mpeg-2, mpeg-4 and so on. So dont mix h264 and mkv together
![]() J3 does not support mkv container at all, but it supports mp4 container (partialy). Unfortunatelly, it works only with lower profiles of h264 codec (up to Baseline 3.2). At the moment I am encoding everything (I am watching HDTV series, so 20 mins episode = 180mb and 42 mins episode = ~350mb) into h264 because it offers significant size reduction (350 => 205mb, and thats kinda impressive) while maintaining same quality (well, not same, because source is already encoded, but if I had raw uncompressed videos, quality would be the same or even better than normal xvid HDTV releases). Here is mediainfo of my vids (I am using Megui). If anyone was interested, I could provide a bit more specific info about some restriction in settings when encoding into mp4 container. Quote:
