does someone have any idea what audio DAC does it use?
I wanna buy one of those but I want a sound quality at least as good as the sandisk players |

I've got a cowon S9, is there a chance that 5.0 sounds as good as that Cowon ?

Maybe not 100% as good as Cowon, but should be pretty good with Voodoo Control plus installed. The first step is done, rooting is possible with superoneclick. But Market would still not let me buy the app, as the 4.0 is still listed as incompatible. I guess you can head over to android market and read the comments of some users who state that by getting the app on their sgs i9000 they won't need dedicated pmps, as the sound is very good.
I can tell you that the sound is better than an archos gmini500, if you use eq. |

could that change audio quality if the audio processor is always the same?

Liking the sound quality. Strong, powerful audio with Sony MDR-EX85. Nice EQ settings with two user-configurable.

Has anyone with rooted player tried to install a custom kernel that includes voodoo kernel from the galaxy s releases?

You can't install any type of Galaxy S ROM and Kernel into Galaxy Player (it could bricked the device). You need ROM and Kernel made specifically for Galaxy Player 4 or 5 and Korean or US version since they're different.

I've tried to ask supercurio (the author of the voodoo control app and driver) to include the 4.0 and 5.0 on the compatiblity list in android market, but so far I haven't got any response from him. Tried both twitter and the xda developers foum. Maybe you can try to ask him too, perhaps it will have better effect, if more people ask him...

Unless Samsung actually developed good drivers for the audio codec, then there would be no need

Voodoo isn't compatible with galaxy player 4.0.

I'm trying to determine but I think the 4.0 may sound better with files but the 5.0 FM radio definitely sounds better.

So I downloaded a 88khz/24bit copy of the Mahler 1st from HDtracks as flac. It would not play on the stock music player included with my 5.0. It would play with the downloaded Neuron player. The error message I got was: "Sorry, the player does not support this kind of audio file". I thought the Samsung player was supposed to support flac files. Didn't I read that in the literature?

How about 44.1kHz/16bit?

Pretty sure the audio CODEC in the Galaxy isn't capable of playing anything higher than 16/48. Neutron usually just downsamples the 24/88 stuff to 16/44.1 or 16/48, which results in worse audio quality than using native 16/44.1 to begin with. And of course it uses much more processing power as well.
I tried Neutron on other Android devices, and it's really more of an "audiophile" toy than a real quality player.
