Default phones that can take some "abuse"

I am starting to transition more to using my headphones than IEMs lately. comfort, variety, whatever. I like my hd428s but I dont want to mess them up having them banging around in my bag all the time. Can anybody recommend a particularly sturdy set that still sound good? Like some good hinges on the cups, and a headband that wont snap under some pressure. price range...ehhh...like $50-80. cheaper is better, could push to $100 for the right phones. Being hauled around, I prefer to not cry to hard if someone else feels like they need them more than me and takes them. I also prefer around the ear design as opposed to on the ear.

some of the sets I have been considering...

I own the JVC HA-M750, they're tuff - but NOWHERE near as rugged as my dbi pro-700's. Now, the JVC HA-M5X headphones look built right, but I bet the dbi's are better in the "tank" dept.

BTW: Here's a link for the dbi pro-700's on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/DBI-Pro-700-Head...#ht_1216wt_905

yeah, saw that set but the hole in the mesh and wear ont he earpads has me shying away. what was the comfort like on yours? I wear mine 3-4 hours at a time at work some days.

some quick searching has me looking at the sony mdr-v6 and the fischer audio fa-004. reports of clamping woes have made me move away fromt he akg 518.

Dude, the ear pads and mesh are to be discarded on the dbi's the minute you get 'em. Then you use either a leather/pleather or Bayer Dynamic velvet set of pads w/new mesh. These cans are used listening station cans,...I wouldn't be caught DEAD w/the original pads - their POS deteriorated rubber-coated uncomfortable poop!

As for the MDR-V6 cans,...read THIS!!!

I agree with that review 100%!!!

B&H has them, as well as plenty of online retailers AFAIK. I ordered mine directly from Bayer myself,...
