Need a replacement for Sony S639

Hey guys,

Lost my Sony S639, need a replacement. The A845 seems to be getting a lot of bad press here for background clicking noise and an unbearably slow UI. (reviews on front page)

Are those same problems present in the S754? Are there any sub-$200 (USD) players you guys would recommend? Any places besides ebay I should look?

The S754 is much improved on the S639 in terms of interface, screen etc. with a number of bugs - scrolling, year tag etc. fixed.

I didn't notice any clicking or a slow UI with my A845, but the S754 is a better player because

1: The buttons are a lot bigger despite the player's being smaller - the A's buttons were really hard to work.

2: Twice, or even more than twice the battery life.

3: 5 user playlists plus SensMe.

4: The S's Tru-Black is better than the A's OLED - writing is clearer and
the viewing angle is just as good.

5: Smaller - the A was sharp and angular - no good for in your pocket.

I sold the A and kept the S - it really is that much better.

Sounds good #1 and #2 are really important to me. I can't stand finicky buttons.

Any chance I can get an S754 for lower than what it's being sold for on eBay? ($186). Is the scrolling bug fixed? Dunno what the year tag is for, if it's for labeling music, not my worry!

The scrolling bug is fixed - I don't know about US prices - that seems kind of high.

Dang it. I'm going to have to scour around for a lower price. At this price point, the iPod Touch is tempting.

Sony's USA site only lists the S544/545(previous gen and not as good) and the new E354 (which is only 8GB).

Agreed....if the 16GB E355 was sold here, I would buy it in a heartbeat....they charge $80 for the 8GB, so the 16GB would probably be only another $20 or so.

Really? They have it available for $73 for the red E354 on Amazon and $80 for the black version. How's the sound quality on it? Is the UI snappy?

I haven't had the chance to try one myself...but there's a pretty comprehensive review of one here on the site by GreasyTacoAficionado, and it looks real nice.

Damn. I've read so many good things about the S754. Why does it have to be pricey here!
