...i gotta say, my droid 2 sounds FANTASTIC. I'm no audiophile, but i do usually notice bad audio quality, my HD and Droid are close enough for me.

There's Rhapsody, Spotify, Mog and Napster already for subscription services - the ones that I know of anyway. And MS does have apps in the App Store already. So I would think the odds would be pretty good.

But, I bet any music purchases from the app would have to be from iTunes.

Yeah this isn't true at all, perhaps there are some that fail at audio but put the ZHD up vs an good phone like the iphone and it's no contest. The iphone is superior even without taking things like EQu into account.

Did you really just allude to iPhone's EQ? The default player has a very similar "EQ" to the Zune's... Just sayin', if you don't do some research and find a better player app, you get no EQ.

Adub was referring to this.....EQu-the-quality-equalizer which I also have along with this.... Equalizer . Both of them give you all kinds of control....I can hook up every headphone I have and get it to sound good now.

I disagree. My iPhone 3G has inferior SQ to my Zune HD.
Well, wait. I'm not sure "inferior" is the right word.
I prefer the slightly warmer sound signature of my Zune HD to my iPhone 3G.

Some mp3 players roll of bass a tiny, tiny bit, but thats about all. If one sounds significantly warmer, you're probably doing the comparison badly (some weird effects enabled, not properly blinded, mismatched volume levels, etc.)

Highly doubtful, but you never know. I don't think the Zune team would port a Zune app to either Android or iOS. I'd love to be wrong though... I'd kill for a Zune app on iOS. I'm happy with EQu on my Touch but Zune would rock!!

I did not do a blind test, no effects enabled, I just hear it.
I suppose it could be placebo but I have no horse in the race: I would be happy if the iPhone sounded as good and I could utilize the convenience factor of a single device but to me the sound difference is substantial enough to justify the expense and hassle of a 2nd device.

I wouldn't put it past Apple to agree to another potential revenue stream, but there's one other hurdle to overcome.....isn't the Zune Pass music in WMA form? That won't play on an iDevice.

no, as stated in the Zune insider podcast 109, I think to remember that it was mentioned, that its mostly mp3 now.

LOL!!! I love some of you guys w/your "zune-colored" glasses.

Go to GSM Arena and check out the reviews on the mentioned devices, as they've been testing them w/a 16ohm load nowadays. The iPhone is pretty much king of the hill, and the EQ no longer has the "distortion issue" since iOS 4 has hit. Plus, it puts out loud enough volume WITHOUT any rooting OR jailbreaking - and "EQu" and "Equalizer" toast the zune (on either the touch OR the iPhone).

Even the Android devices not only have PowerAMP, but the can be rooted to use a custom kernel and VOODOO SOUND TECH for REAL hardware EQ (an the Samsung Galaxy S Series ATM),...what does that say about the SQ or (lacking) features of the zune?

Really, opinions are opinions - facts are FACTS! Too many of you have professed how the zune hd has the "BESTEST SQ AROUND!!! Get facts, or just deal w/the financial loss you've had to bear.

And as for Apple allowing a Zune app and subscription service on an iPhone/touch - it's actually possible. As mentioned, they want money - and if this gets them good $$$ they'll go for it. MS on the other hand, won't go for it - they want total control,...

I agree completely with everything you've said, except that you seem to be under the impression that we all feel the HD wasn't worth what we paid for it...

Lol see, for MS to jump in and release a Zune app on the iOS is conceding defeat. And MS doesn't do that. Not until said defeat burns billions of dollars worth of a hole in their pockets.

That's why WP7 was released, to keep burning a hole (eventually) in my pocket. And I wasted money on the Zune:hd, not worth the $$$ IMO.

After about 3 months the novelty of a phone as a music player wore off and I was back to my ZHD. The beauty, power and ease of use of the Zune Desktop Client. The awesomeness of the Zune Pass, and the simple joy of using the Zune HD erased any perceived inconvenience of carrying more than one device.

As some dude once said, "it's the ecosystem stupid".
