..or so the rumor goes. The Zune battery gets overheated while charging, expands and cracks the screen from inside.
Is this a common problem? I want to get the Zune HD 64Gb and have no intention wasting my money. I also called MS tech support and checked with them if this would be covered under warranty. The simple answer "Cracked screen - No" Initial rumor in 2007 http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/31/z...tery-pressure/ Zune HD case from a year ago http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...1082403AAWwhbL Zune HD case in December 2010 http://www.zuneboards.com/forums/zhd...ver-night.html |

I have NEVER heard of this happening. And I've been following the HD pretty much since day 1... If it makes you feel any better, I've used several methods of charging (USB through the computer, AC to USB wall adapter thingy, and a Kicker dock) and while they do make the battery warm, no more so than my phone or any other device I've ever had, and my Zune's screen is still in one piece.

The heat coming from my ZuneHD has become so hot that you can cook something on it /exaggeration. This has happened multiple times and no cracks have appeared from the overheating.

I remember the rumour from back in '07, but what makes you think it would apply to the Zune HD?
Also, considering the fact that there are only 2 instances in which it happened reported on the internet, it doesn't seem to be a widespread problem, that is, if it DOES exist. It's never happened to me before. And I leave my Zune charging all the time. But I will say this: The Zune HD does get pretty damn hot at times. I can remember at least one time in which it got so hot it was uncomfortable to hold. |

I can tell you that I had mine plugged in charging for over 18 hours once (yeah, forgot I plugged it in the night before and went to work the next day with it still plugged in) and it wasn't any warmer than when I plug it in for 10 min. That's with a 32GB version...doubt the 64GB would be any different.

Charging it doesn't heat it up as much as playing PGR: Ferrari edition (or whatever its called). That is the only thing that heated my Zune HD up.
I have never heard of that happening to a Zune HD. |

Ahhh, I'm talking out of my ass here, but if Wal-mart's got it, that'll probably be the cheapest. Beyond that, Google should serve you well, my friend.

Yeah, eBay had it. $276 (no tax, Free S/H), but I lost the bid by like $1, as it often happens.
I decided to go smartphone route. Currently awaiting Nokia N900 to arrive. Essentially same price and memory capacity. Will report on sound quality later. |
