Cowon X7 vs Archos Gen 9

I thought I had finally made a decision and was going to purchase the Cowon X7, despite the issues with playlists. However, after reading about the new Archos tablets, I'm rethinking my decision.

Does anyone have any idea about how the Archos Generation 9 devices will compare to the X7 in regards to:

• Sound quality
• Size
• Price
• Playlist features
• Battery life

Any other info would be appreciated!

Nobody knows that since the Gen9 won't be out until at least June 2011.

Battery life:
IMO, you'd be hard pressed to find much battery life than the X7.
103 hours of rated battery life is nothing to snivel at.

Sound Quality:-
I also don't think the Archos players will sound better than the X7, much thanks to its jet effects, etc. Cowon is known to its world class sound and Archos has yet to make a statement on this.

Size:
X7 wins. The Archos line, IIRC will be starting at 5 inch screens, so no matter how you cut it, the Archos players must be larger

Playlist features:
Anything has got to be better than Cowon's implementation so the Archos might best the X7

Price:
No one knows for sure, but the X7 is priced pretty good at around $300.00 U.S. dollars. We will see how the Archos line pans out

Couple of quick follow-ups:

What's the sound quality like for the most recent Archos players?

Any guesses to how small the Archos Gen 9 tablets will run? 5" isn't far from the X7 4.3.

The X7 sounds amazing, but with the playlist issues and lack of versatility, the Archos seems like more bang for the buck.

One thing I am certain: the Archos will trounce the X7 for video playback, because that is Archos's forte.

Archos is ONLY good at video, that's it. For audio playback it will play almost anything thrown at it - but w/low volume and only decent SQ.

Cowon is good for video, but AWESOME for SQ and eq+sound enhancements. Plus, the battery life on a Cowon kills 99% of any players out - period!!! Archos, no matter what they claim - the battery life is poop!!!

Unless it is a Cowon D3. WiFi-ON drains the D3. WiFi is what keeps Archos players from lasting long on a charge. Same is true for every device I have with Wifi.

Even with wifi off the Archos 70 I own has paltry battery life,... But,...the D3 is a prime example of a player from Cowon that I'd recommend NOT getting - too buggy.

No tablets out there get more than 10 hours. They shouldn't be compared to pocketable devices. Big screens chew more energy than small ones. And if your 70 has a hard drive that's another reason its battery life sucks.
