Default Fuuuuuuuuuuu!! My cats just ate my etymotic headphones!

Seriously, they are destroyed. I think they even ate the triple-flange ear tips lol!

Now i need some new IEMs.

Can anyone advise what I should try next? This was my second pair of Etymotic er6's, I loved them but i have always struggled to get a really secure fit in the ear. I used bi and triple flange tips as well as the foam. They seem to just eventually slip out after awhile. It's as if my ears lack an anatomical part to keep the heads in place

Anyway, I'm feeling adventurous. Rather than buying the same IEM's again I think I might try a different brand. Any suggestions?

These are for a Rockboxed Fuze and my musical tastes lie in various genres, from metal to techno to underground rap, dance etc.
I do like bass and recall dfkt saying the hippos are a good brand worth trying.
My budget is $150AUD and less.

Cheers guys.

Bruce

PS HULK SMASH CATS!

'Night and day' doesn't even remotely start to describe the difference between the ER6 and the VB. With that choice, you would be going from one extreme end of the IEM spectrum to the other one. Hope you're prepared for that.

Hmmm...

That's interesting to hear. I usually have my fuze/clip+ with no eq but bass perhaps 2db+ and full volume. I wonder how the hippos will sound.

The only thing really putting me off the hippos is the lack of flange tips, I have a feeling the usual stock tips they supply will not stay in my ears at all (as was the case with the foam ones from etymotic).

Hmm...

The sleek audio (sa1) intrigues me, an adapter to go wirelessy as well might be useful in my line of business (im a cleaner).

The hippos seem pretty well priced tho, even for an experiment $80USD ain't too bad.

Decisions decisions...

@BB:
1- take those cats to the vet
2- stock VB tips are not so great...single flange. If you go VB, suggest Sony Hybrids or Super.fi tips

From all I have read about the Etys, could not agree with dfkt more. Vastly different sound characteristics. And totally agree with you - for 80USD, VBs should be in everyone's stable of IEMs

hmmm, lots of VModas on there. Heard some hit or miss stuff about VModa.

These interested me quite a bit for a while:
http://www.themp3outletstore.com.au/...e-rrp-259.html

Best I can offer...I am just not as expert on the stuff there to give a really good recommendation.

dfkt? others?

Out of all that list I would buy these. But for no good reason other than always wanting to try them. Either way, I guess you got some reading to do on a bunch of those options. Good luck and let us know what you ended up with and what you think in the end.

Yeh i noticed the ultimate ears one as well, $259 down to $119, with my $60 store credit would mean i could pick a pair up for $60!

My ONLY hesitation in picking any of these heads over etymotic ones is the ear tips, I have a fear that with my ears only the bi and tri-flange tips will secure and stay in my ear.
Does anyone know if these ultimate ears or klipsch one's can take triple-flange tips somehow?

I just read this http://anythingbutipod.com/2008/12/u...-or-v2-review/

Correct me if i'm wrong, the vi version is the SAME as the vii version with the exception of an additional microphone component?

As far as triple-flanges go, you should be able to pick some up eBay like these fairly cheaply that would fit them.

I still have some triple flange from the etymotics left over (the cats didn't eat them all!), I hope they will fit. The same seller above also sells more etymotic flange tips as well. Just wondering if anyone out there can confirm that etymotic tips fit the ultimate ears or any other brand on that site well?

I'm waiting patiently for more people to comment

According to this thread, the Ety triple flanges have a 1.8mm opening and the UE silicone have a 4mm opening.

cheers cnhardwick. It also says the ety will stretch over 3.5mm+ hmm... I posted on that thread to see if anyone can confirm that ety will fit on the UE.

II hope dfkt shows up soon with some more info, I just read his reviews on both the V-Moda and UE SUper Fi 5. He says the ety triple and bi-flange's will fit the V-Moda, I'm wondering how this effects the hoise isolation. As I'm a cleaner and use a fairly noisy vacuum its really important to not hear it (as was the case with the ety er6's. But I love bass too so the Super Fi 5 I'm really keen to try!

DFKT! If yer out there do u know if any of the ety flanges fit the UE Super Fi 5 IEM's well?

Ok. After quite sometime searching and reading reviews I have definitely come to some conclusions.

1) I'm not buying etymotic again. These have been the ONLY IEMs I have ever tried/used. I have went through two pairs of er6's over a... well since the er6's were first released... a long time. At the time of their initial release (10yrs ago?) I didn't know of ANY proper IEMs especially that cut outside noise out like they did with the bi and triple flange tips, so with that in mind it kinda fueled me to buy a second pair again rather than risk buying another pair of IEMs that were single flange and might not stick in my ears properly.
But now after reading dfkt and other user comments I have perhaps been limiting my ears to some other lovely sounds!

2) I am pretty skint at the moment so want to use my store credit of $60 and buy something from his range here http://www.themp3outletstore.com.au/...earphones.html

3) I think i'm pulled between going for the v-moda vibe http://www.themp3outletstore.com.au/...ompatible.html but the only thing making me reconsider this would be the fact that as a cleaner I might hear my vacuum cleaner as apparently these don't noise isolate that much.

4) and the Ultimate Ears Super Fi5vi (with microphone?), and thanks to cnhardwick's ebay link thos triple flange tips fit the UE's

Soo... V-Moda Vibe for a cost of $0 or UE Super Fi5vi for $60? I'm edging towards the UE's...

Get the ultimate ears, the v-moda vibe at that store is very expensive even though you can get it for free, at eBay it's only 30$.

Rather than being bound and tied by their selections, get the one that you can easily resell for the most money and sell it. Then go out and buy the iem's that you really want anywhere

Well i just bought the UE Super Fi 5vi (has a mic as well). I am BLOWN away by how good they sound, they haven't even burnt in yet.
I always use Leftfield's Storm 3000 track to test new heads to see how they perform and omg it was lovely and loud with plenty of bass an no distortion.
I will be using my sansaclip+ and fuze which are both rockboxed to enjoy theses heads.

Best part of all I picked up the Super Fi's for $60AUS

So this has been an interesting lesson for me. Previously i have only ever used etymotics er6's, now my eyes (or should i say ears) are wide open! I have to totally agree with dfkt's comments how etymotic are overpriced and overrated.

The various tips that come with the Superfi's had me worried that I wouldn't get a good seal (as I was always used to using the triple flange etymotic tips) but thats not the case at all, they have an even BETTER seal and comfort imho.

Superfi 5.... WINNING!
