The M1 has been discontinued for a long time, it's normal you don't find it brand-new on online stores

You can find it sometimes on ebay or... ebay

PS: why posting in the "site news & announcements" forum?
That doesn't make any sense, I move the thread.

No I don't think it's worth it for 300€, especially the 16GB version you found. Even for the 32GB version 300€ would be too much.

The YP-M1 is a player with a great hardware and therefore which had a great potential but Samsung failed on the software. They stopped the firmware support only a few months after the release because the R&D team for that player split and changed their job. The firmware is unfortunately not optimized for the awesome nVidia Tegra SoC inside (that also powered the Zune HD).

I just browsed my old emails and here are for example the requests and suggestions I sent to the R&D in Korea back to 2010:
Quote:
-Reduce time between 2 tracks. It's impossible to skip several songs quickly!
-When you just turned on the player, you sometimes have to wait several seconds until the screen responds

-Improve tags support (FLAC, AAC, OGG, No album cover with WMA files)

-Add video file information like on the P3 and why not music file information (bitrate, size, format, album year etc)

-Add a feature allowing to merge internal memory and microSD in the library

-Use G-sensor to pivot automatically pictures
And many more software weaknesses...

They never implemented what I requested for the reason I mentioned above (R&D team no longer available for this model).

The main competitor of the M1 was the Cowon J3. I guess you should rather look for it. Or just get a Samsung Galaxy Player running Android

It's really a sad story. The M1 had such a great potential with a much better hardware than the Cowon J3 for instance. If only it had a good firmware... Not many people know this model because Samsung also failed on marketing, communication and price. They only advertised this product in Korea and it was totally overpriced in Europe.

But anyway, thanks for giving me this opportunity to share my knowledges and tell the ABI community about the story of this unknown player
