Default Help me find the right mp3 player for me!

Hey, I'm a new member to these forums, but I've been lurking around this site for quite a while.

I'm trying to find an mp3 player for casual listening. I need a player with no more than 16 gigs, 8 is perfect for me. I'm willing to spend up to $80, but I'd rather it be cheaper. Video/Picture functions aren't necessary, but if they are included, I don't really care. Lastly, I need the battery life to last me at least a day.

I really care about my sound, and I know how to encode properly. SQ is probably the most important thing to me in choosing an mp3 player.

I really like the interface of my friend's Sony player, where you can press left or right to scroll A-Z. I need something intuitive, yet simple.

Thanks for reading. I look forward to your responses.

Well, I've had a bad history with Sony products. Most of them I've had start having problems within 6 months.

Not to mention the problems I've had with their tech support. :P

While there are other good options you'll read on abi, *cough sansa clip*!!! Although when I read a statement like "I really like the interface of my friend's Sony player, where you can press left or right to scroll A-Z. I need something intuitive, yet simple," then it's a no-brainer to go with what you know and like

Lol, I hate to say it, but I've had like 2 sansa clips. I lost both of them a year ago, and have had yet to find them. I do take good care of my electronics, but something that small just gets lost eternally in my house.

Well the sony should have a one year warranty, just save the receipt just in case. If you do have an issue you can't fix, they should either replace or fix your player during that time frame.

Alrighty. I just have one last question. How does the SQ of the Clip compare to say, a Sony Walkman E Series?

While it's been ages since I've listen to a sony, I think most will tell you that they both produce very good sound and without sound enhancements volume matched it would be hard to tell the difference between the two. Personally I like the Clip for the expansion slot and rockbox, but that's me.

You too and enjoy your new player. BTW you should look thru the sony forums http://anythingbutipod.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=90 to see if you can pick up any info.
