sd card trouble firmware v. 2.57

My wife has had her D2 for a couple of years and has recently tried putting audio book mp3 files on a 1gb sd card. Neither of us can find any of the files in the mp3 browser for listening. They're just not available. How do I make the sd card work with the player?
