Default Why isn't Shuffle By Album integrated into the device?

I don't understand the new application, Shuffle By Album.

It shuffles your albums, then plays them normally in the order shuffled.

Okay, that's neat. I understand why it's useful.

But why is it simply a music player app?

It even mimics the Zune interface.

It's an music player app for a music playing device.

Shouldn't Shuffle By Album be part of a firmware update as a feature, not a standalone application? Yes, it's a neat feature, but it's just odd to have to open an application to play music in a certain way on a device that already plays music.

Eh, my guess is that they just didn't have a firmware update to include this in, and this was the fastest and easiest way they had of getting this function out.

The Zune is not the only player to have an external app for music. Teipod TOuch is no stranger to this also. There are various diferent now playing apps, and a new one was intruduced to play FLAC files. I also agree that something like this should be intergrated as a FW update, but my opinion to this is, better now than later.

Does anyone get the sense that the Shuffle by Album app gives us a sneak peak of a future UI/feature addon to either WP7 or future Zune?

Also, if you look at the information inside the app, you will see it is clearly stated that it is a concept. The app itself at least for me isn't running as smooth as other other apps and feels more like an emulator.

This all lead me to speculate that the app was released to test a possible feature of a future WP7 or Zune version.

Some of the new applications seem to reflect possible future firmware updates. I mean, the Twitter app allows you to rotate your keyboard, something you can't do in the browser. The notifications on the Windows Live Messenger app are much smoother and better-looking than the default notifications.

Hopefully these new changes will be implemented in a firmware update which needs to come sooner.

I think the difference with the rotating Twitter keyboard and the keyboard in the browser is just because you can't rotate the Twitter app itself. That is, in the browser it's possible to rotate the browser to the landscape position and then open the keyboard and that gives you the landscape keyboard. However, the Twitter app is always portrait, so the keyboard must be able to turn after opening it so that you can use it landscape at all. Sorry if that didn't make much sense, but it's the best way that I could think to word it.
