Default I think VB's might be the way to go...

*sigh* Once again my priorities turn to getting a new set of headphones.

My trusty Panasonic RP-HJE900's just stopped working. Just stopped. Without any odd usage or anything. I'd love to get another pair of them, but the cheapest I can find them now is about 140USD, which is just too much for me.

So, to any of you who own both, how do the VB's stack up with the Panas? Are there any other IEM's around 80USD or less that may suit my fix?

Much thanks,

BOTH sides stopped working simultaneously? If so, I would check if the source is defective first before blaming the earphones.

If it's not the source, then it's the wire. I doubt that both drivers can break at the same time under normal use.

Thankfully, the HJE900 wires are user-replaceable.

Shouldn't the panas still be under warranty?

Yes, this is very surprising to me! Granted, my own Panas are only 5 months old, but they have seen near daily use with no troubles at all.

For sure, warranty!

No, sorry I should've been more specific. Just one of the sides, and I unplugged both of the buds and replaced them (so that the one that WAS plugged into the right was then plugged into the left and vice versa) and the same bud was out, so it's the buds, not the wire. As for the warranty, it's only been about four months since I got them, but I'm pretty sure it was a three month warranty. I'm gonna go dig up the papers to be absolutely sure now.

Thanks for the responses!

Alright so I guess I must have misplaced the things it was shipped with because it's not in my warranty/miscellaneous manuals file. >=l Um, I'm going to sound like an idiot, but I don't have a lot of experience with warranty claims cuz not much breaks on me... But where should I go from here? Or am I just screwed?...

Thanks so much for any help.

Hey, I left my warranty stuff in NYC. Still, I would immediately call USA Panasonic dealer and complain [nicely]. Like all big companies, if you massage them right, you stand a better than even chance of getting some satisfaction - in your case, you simply want an exchange of a clearly defective product.

Good luck man!

You rather need an evidence that you purchased them on a specific date from a retailer (online or in a store), then I think it wont be a problem for your warranty. Also, 3 months warranty sounds a bit short for me. Most electronic product have 1-2 year warranty i'd think?

Hey guys,

So, I called Panasonic (should've been my first move, but I'm a moron ) and apparently my memory about the short warranty is flawed, and the 'phones are still covered. So I'm sending them in. Nice and clean like.

My only holdup is that I have to pay to ship em to Texas. Then again, a few bucks sounds a whole lot better than the 80 some for the VBs and 130 some for a whole new pair of Panasonics haha

Thanks to everyone who responded to this,

SWEET! Congrats man. Just think - now you get to feel the love all over again when you get your shiny new perfect set of Panas.

Haha yea, a second unboxing! I was thinking about that. A lot lately. Cuz my brother lent me his Skull Candy Chops (ugh...) to take the place of my Panas during the transaction here. Pretty much, they're 12USD little tinny (not tiny, tinny. Or no, they're pretty tiny, too) buds, and my lord I think I'd rather just live without music for the next couple weeks... They actually hurt! Haha but saying all this makes me sound like a spoiled little brat. I've been spoiled with the wonders of the Panas's.

Exclamation What the f***

Ugh sorry to necro this, but I just got a call from Panas. Worst call of my life.

They told me that my warranty was only 90 days, even though when I called them way back when, they told me that it had a 1 year warranty.

I proceeded to explain that this contradicts what they told me in February and they just told me that I must be mistaken. I just can't believe this.

So, they told me that if I payed them $22.50, they'd send me a pair of RP-HJE300s. This is ridiculous. I can get them for 16 if I really wanted them off of Amazon.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do next? Should I just ditch it and go get a different set? Because I'm lost, and about ready put my head through a wall.

Since you're in the USA, I would escalate those douchebags' behavior with the Better Business Bureau.

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep that for later tonight after I try calling them again.

Damn man sorry to hear that. So you sent them in way back at the end of Jan and they're just now getting back to you?

Eh, I kinda took a while to get around to it...

It doesn't change the fact that I bought them last October, and it has not been a year. Besides, at the end of January, it still would have been longer than 90 days.

Sorry to necro... Again...

So, basically I got a big "FU" from Panasonic when I confronted them. They maintain that it's only a 90 day warranty. They also said that, because the model has been discontinued, they don't have any replacements for it, and they wouldn't be able to do anything with the warranty anyway. This was quite a while ago that they told me this, and I just forgot to update this thread. The reason I remember now is that I find myself longing for IEMs that aren't just half working, and love my Panas.

My question is, then, would it be possible or worth my time and money to try to find someone/someplace that will repair my IEMs or should I just buy something else?
