Can't install Zune Software

I just got a new Zune HD 32GB yesterday and have been trying to install the software since then.

I first tried the one at the Zune site but it said something about not being able to download required components from Microsoft Update and it have me a link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944938?sd=zune
I tried this one and now it says that the Windows 7 portable device update was not installed. The error code is 0x80240017.

I tried searching for more windows updates but it tells me that it's up to date. Tried installing with Vista compatibility and running it as Admin, still nothing. If I simply plug the Zune in, it fails to find the driver.

The farthest it ever went was when is was preparing the computer but it stopped at 99%.

I use Windows 7 64bit.

Help me please! I've had no mp3 player for a month becuase I left my Creative Zen in a cab.

I don't have the zune but are you trying with the 64-bit version available for download?

I suggest you uninstall the current version you have by hitting Windows key+R to bring up the Run box, type appwiz.cpl and hit enter. Select Zune at the bottom of the list and uninstall. Then, make sure that you select the 64-bit version of the software, not the 32-bit. Perhaps this is just a bad install, often reinstalling will work just fine, good luck !

I never checked the version .
I went here: http://www.zune.net/en-US/products/s...adsoftware.htm but it doesn't work...
And, I have never installed anything Zune related so there is no program to uninstall. All I managed to do was get the install files downloaded and attempt to run them and they fail.
