Firmware 1.23 for R0

Here is the new firmware for R0. Has been released a bit sooner than I expected, great^^

Improvements:
-Fix the library update error

The issue was due to too long filenames.
I'll put the spedax's files on my R0 tonight to make sure they don't brick the device anymore

Hope we now got definitely rid of this annoying issue!

How to upgrade firmware: Download the firmware, extract the archive, put the R0.ROM file at the root of your player (the root is where all main folders are: music, video, system, pictures etc...), disconnect the player. Turn it on, it will automatically upgrade the firmware. You can check the firmware version in settings>system>about.

Okay guys, I confirm the new firmware fix the issue of library update with spedax's files (long filenames) - Tested in both MSC and MTP mode

For your information: I reported this bug on Nov 11. Firmware 1.23 has been released on Nov 16 and published on the Samsung website today. So only a few days to fix the issue.
I hope you understand now why it is so important to send me your files when you notice a bug on your R0

@Russian users: I also reported the issue in text reader (words are cut at the end of the line) but Samsung seem to have forgot this issue, sorry^^

As you already know, Samsung firmwares only fix bugs, they do not add new features so of course there are never many improvements

But if your Russian friends are not able to tell me how to reproduce other bugs (if there are any), Samsung cannot fix them!

The process is always the same. As long as I (or Samsung) cannot reproduce a bug, it won't be fixed. And if you want me to reproduce a bug, you have to give me as many information/details about it as possible and/or send me the problematic files.

I know some bugs are not easily reproducable (issues in FM mode for example) and that's difficult to upload several GB of files on a free server but unfortunately that's the only way if R0 users want bugs to be fixed.

So my conclusion is: The guy who noticed the bug in text reader in Russian language may be disappointed because it could have been fixed in this firmware. But the other users cannot be disappointed with the number of improvements. If they wanted some bugs to be fixed, they had to work with me until I'm able to reproduce the bug. Nobody did.

I have a question. Is software now working stable? I read a few posts where the writers complained about the stability of the software.

I guess it will never be 100% stable but for me it's stable enough since fw 1.22. Aside from the major bug of library update (a new root cause has been fixed in fw 1.23), there are only some minor bugs but the R0 works fine!

For the moment I only noticed one bug in fw 1.23: update library manually (settings>system>library update) fails in MSC mode.

It's not written in the improvements, is it?

There is no problem with mp3 tags and flac tags (as well as WMA and OGG tags) cannot be fixed via a firmware upgrade as I already said hundred times.

After FW 1.23 most of the problems (at least those i am interested in) seem to be solved. You did a great job, and i really hope samsung pays attention to your work. Sir, you are a great customer-supporter!!!

But they're rather getting on my nerves. Almost every time the R&D fix a bug they create another bug as a side-effect. I'm happy the spedax files don't brick the library anymore but now I can't update the library manually anymore...

But don't worry, Samsung obviously pays attention to my work. Samsung Korea listens to a 21 year-old French boy (that's probably not the case in many companies) and I sometimes get mp3 players for free!

I understand it's usual in the development process. But that's not normal they release firmwares in kind of "beta" state. Such a big company could take on beta-testers or just ask me to test the firmwares for free before releasing them... I can unbrick my DAPs myself but a normal consumer is obliged to send his mp3 player to the after-sales service center with those beta firmwares...

What I do (the interface between Samsung and the customers) is not difficult at all. It just requires motivation, patience and time. So other people could do it too

i really know not enough about programming, so thumbs up!

Neither do I. I can only program my Texas Instrument Calculator in basic language

You are right about that big company thing, but it's not just a samsung-way, just earning money as soon as possible. Well programming a Calc is not my business also . Btw only 500 kB left on the Player, and no more problems, thats great!

Just a little question out of topic but who can afford a R0 in India? only upper class in big cities or?
