Right now, I just have a middle grade pair of IEM's for working out, jogging, yardwork: Brainwavs M2/Visang R03
I got them in the mail just today. I've been listening to the stock J3 earbuds for a while now. I turned the volume up to 35 with the M2's in and I thought my nose was going to bleed. I played a little rap with the EQ set to "X-Bass" and I'm really impressed how well they thump - even though I don't listen to much rap. |

*Klipsch image s4i', I love these*. I am torn about the full size cans though. I just purchased the Grado 80i's from Amazon last week, way to bright for my tastes, I also was not impressed by the limited soundstage. Any recomendations for some $100 full sized cans.
Thanks.

Around the house I usually use Grado SR60s, which sound great. The J3 can (barely) drive these at very-sufficient sound levels; if I want it loud I have to crank the J3 up to the high-30s setting, almost maxed out.
In my pocket, and when travelling, I use Ultimate Ears 10 IEMs, which I got on sale a year ago for $100 from Amazon. It was a 75% discount; they're phenomenal but I wouldn't be able to justify paying $400 regular price for them. Very, very nice IEMs. The J3 drives them easily; they're very loud at a setting around 30. It was recommended that I run IEMs for at least 24 hours to break them in when new; good advice - they smoothed out considerably within a couple of days and sound better than when they were brand-new. A properly-fitting silicone or foam earpiece is essential for accurate and full bass, which the UE10s will deliver in spades once broken in and fitted to your ear. |

I use a combo of the Klipsch S4 and the Sennheiser HD428 right now. Both sound great. I enjoy the HD428 immensely with this player. I was about to take them back when I was using a fuze+ but the J3 made enough of a difference that I had to keep them.
I have a set of Hippo VB on the way...eventually. manufacturing delays are making me wait until end of this month. |

I had the UE triple fi pros with a sansa clip, and was pretty happy with the soundquality. I wanted to buy a new media player that could also play videos, and went with the J3 after hearing good stuff about cowon. The same day my J3 arrived in the mail, my Triples stopped working. Talk about bad luck... I managed to try them an hour or so before they lost sound, and I still think they went well together. It sounded great.
Breaking the wires for the triple.fi earplugs twice, and finally the plugs themselves (after only one year), I wanted to go for another brand. After reading the positive review of the SM3s on this site, i went for it. I had to wait 20 painstaking days, for them to finally arrive by mail(damn Ups not delivering in Norway). It's a bit hard to compare the triple.fis with the SM3s, now that i've waited for so long, but it's definitely a different sound. But in a good way. They also included some silicone tips from Earsonics. I'm trying them out with some Dire Straits right now, and I am pleased with both the J3 and the earplugs. Thank you for the great review Dfkt ; ![]() - Knut |

Depending on my mood, I will use it with my Shure SE530, ES SM3, Monster Turbine Copper, or Denon AH-D2000 out Doors. In doors I'll use Grado SR80 or Denon AH-D2000 and maybe ES SM3.

Most think i'm nuts for liking it, but i haven't heard better noise reduction yet. And with a bit of tweeking on the J3, produces stunning sound |

I use SoundMagic PL-50s. Very highly recommended, especially when you consider the price.

Although they look a bit ridiculous for wearing while walking my choice of headphones for the J3 are Ultrasone Pro 900's, the J3 struggles a bit at times to drive them but the bass is superb.

I use either Audio-Technica ATH-AD900s (in office or car, so I can hear outside noises if need be - like phone/car horns), or Shure SRH440s (if it's noisy and I want isolation)

I think that any set of headphones will sound better or worse depending on whether or not you match it (i.e. tweak its sound) with a properly created custom EQ/BBE setup... developed by experimenting.
An existing BBE user setup may sound terrific for one headphone but crummy with another. This is common sense. So no matter what headphones you use, do spend time trying to match it with an "optimizing" BBE setup to bring out the best possible sound (to you) from those phones. I recently upgraded to Shure SRH940 headphones, and they are FANTASTIC! But I match them with the following "fairly moderate and flat" USER EQ setup (which may not work for you, or for other headphones that are not as "transparent and neutral" as the SRH940 is): --------- EQ: WIDE 135HZ: 3 NORMAL 385HZ: 0 NORMAL 650HZ: 1 NORMAL 2.4KHZ: 2 WIDE 13KHZ: 3 BBE+: BBE: 8 MACH3BASS: 3 3D SURROUND: OFF MP ENHANCE: OFF SE: STEREO ENHANCE: OFF REVERB: OFF --------------------------- |
