Thanks.

Unfortunately mounting a Card folder doesn't work. It gets mounted correctly ...

Code:
sleep 10
ls -la /mnt/mmc >> /mnt/media0/mmc.txt 2>&1

mmc.txt:
drwxrwxrwx 3 root root 32768 Jan 1 1970 .
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 80 Jan 1 1970 ..
drwxrwxrwx 4 root root 32768 Apr 19 2010 Music

mount --bind /mnt/mmc/Music/Test /mnt/media0/Music/Test >> /mnt/media0/error.txt 2>&1

ls -la /mnt/media0/Music > /mnt/media0/media0_Music.txt 2>&1

media0_Music.txt:
drwxrwxrwx 9 230 115 8192 Jan 28 01:33 .
drwxrwxrwx 9 root root 8192 Jan 28 04:09 ..
drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 32768 Nov 21 2010 Test

ls -la /mnt/media0/Music/Test > /mnt/media0/media0_Music_Test.txt 2>&1

media0_Music_Test.txt:
drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 32768 Nov 21 2010 .
drwxrwxrwx 9 230 115 8192 Jan 28 01:33 ..
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4307336 Jan 31 2009 Sig Bjoenson - Music For Random Civilisations.mp3
... but when I open the 'Test' folder in the player, it says "No file".

Perhaps it's only a timing problem - maybe the directory contents are scanned by the r0 software only once, and before the Card folder is mounted...

yes you would need it to be permanently mounted which at the moment is not possible with this script.
how ever if you want I can make a script which does that for you!
you can also try the following:
use MSC mode
launch script
do a manual library update
you should see all files now!

A manual library update after script execution doesn't help - still "No file"...

Instead of hardcoding the SD card mount in the firmware, I'd prefer you just call a script "/mnt/media0/bin/mount.sh" (if it exists) which can be customized by the user.

Update
Ok I did some research we still have a problem left:
rockbox app tries to start giving segmentation fault -> this occurs when trying to access our framebuffer driver on the player (I was able to recreate the error on my linux) rockbox is compiled alright and libsdl also. but I am unable to open the framebuffer due to the lack of fbcon in the kernel. Problem is samsung shipped the r1 kernel settings. I am not sure which options are needed for the r0 so I am kinda stuck which options needs to be set for r0.

SDL cannot be intialized by the rockbox app since we cannot open the video device. any suggestions would help!!

Thanks

UPDATE2
TESTFIRMWARE FOR LEBELLIUM NEW COMPILED KERNEL DO NOT FLASH !!!!!
Ok guys I recompiled the kernel and enabled USB TCP so we can use SSH to connect to the player, this will save us a hell of a time if it works but please let Lebellium try it first DO NOT FLASH. I am very unsure if it works as cramfsl is really close to max. I am not 100% sure how big cramfsl can be but I hope its not too big. If this works we have usb networking support and can use SSH or telnet to get into the player. this will save me a lot time and hopefully u guys too!

DO NOT FLASH!!!
http://mib07.kilu.de/R0.ROM_NewKernel.zip

Please Lebellium check if the firmware works! If it does I am sooo happy!

OK, I won't flash until lebellium has tried it with success.

Good luck, lebellium!

@slade: Maybe a silly question: How can I connect to the player using ssh, if it doesn't have an IP address?

http://elinux.org/Didj_Networking_HOWTO
I recompiled kernel with tcp/ip support and g_ether gadget so basically to use usb as an ethernet device instead of mass storage.
What needs to be done if this works, is to kill r0 app before connecting use ifconfig usb0 to assign ip and to start dropbear in the process then connect the player via usb. since r0 app does all the usb handling.

then we should be good to go to ssh into the device and do our evil stuff

Firmware upgrade OK
But afterwards when power on the device, nothing happens. When pressing the reset button, the samsung bootscreen appears then nothing, black screen (but the device is on as I can see the backlight). I have to press reset to turn it off.
The R0 is not recognized by the computer anymore.
I upgraded from the normal 1.22 fw but I let the rockbox directory on the device. I don't know if this has something to do with that?

BTW, slade I have to tell you I hate your 15kbps-download-speed-FTP
Took me 1hr to download 50MB!

if anyone has another hoster I'll be more than pleased to upload there. I don't have another one sorry

ok this is really bad news, I guess I can't recompile the kernel that sucks. but maybe its possible to compile tcp ip as an module and insert it then but I would need to check that!

Ok I got in contact with Samsung to provide R0 Kernel the one in the opensource kit is for R1 I think R1 has an touch screen am I right? I guess this might be the problem for the device not to function.

You can use megaupload or rapidshare for example, I guess they are faster. But that's not really important, I was just joking

Indeed, the R1 has a touchscreen.

How did you get in touch with Samsung for the R0 kernel?!

I reply to myself, the file has been reuploaded and now there are both the R0 and R1 Linux kernel

So good luck Slade, I'm ready to brick my R0 again

ok guys, i figured something out looking at new kernel sources. seems like the libsdl I compiled in the firmware was actually compiled for touchdisplay on r1. i did not even think about this in the first place. but if I look at it this is the only explination why libsdl could not open framebuffer display. I will look into it and let you guys know. I will try recompiling libsdl again with the current kernel sources and see where we go from there. Also I noticed a shutdown log in case the r0 app is not running it will start again. possibly blocking the framebuffer device for display.
But for now have a great christmas and enjoy the time with your families.

If you guys have anything to help or maybe some questions feel free to ask. I think i'll poke around this thread every once a while during x-mas.

Hey everybody!

We are not sleeping. And I am working with mgue together to get the team better organized and working on some rearrangements to have a better overview on specific tasks.

mgu has skills in linux, programming and crosscompiling and is a great addition to the team. We'll let you know soon on how to follow the development and the current status of our effort to port rockbox.

Happy late New Year! And keep your heads up progress could be made very soon!

Update

Mgue is getting our new development trac and wiki ready to organize our project better. I will publish the new plattform as soon as we are ready!
In the meantime mgu is getting to create a new script version of the firmware for 1.23 and we are currently looking on ways to trick the system and gain access to all the necessary parts. I think with the now better organized system we can be much more effiecent.
I think it is only a matter of time getting everything set up to start the hacking again. But first we need to figure out some new ways and attempts which indeed we already have in mind.

I'll keep you posted!

Unfortunately i dont have any linux programming skills, so im pretty useless in rockbox porting, but as i promised at the first day of february the development of resource repacking tool for windows will begin, if you have any suggestions, you may leave them here. This tool will allow player customization, which is not avaliable via ucis.
