Any Reason Clip+ Screen Couldn't Be Bigger?

The Clip Zip is much lighter than the Clip+. For many people, a Clip is their only player.

Do you have a Clip Zip, to compare them? You can't trust all the dimensions you read online, they can vary from one website to another. I don't recall which site it was(it was six weeks or so ago), but there was one I had seen while researching for my review that was listing the Zip measurements as the same as the Clip+, which is clearly in error.

Regardless of the semantics of what constitutes "much lighter", the fact remains that if you made it 25% thicker and jammed a larger battery in there, it would get significantly heavier......which would detract from the device's intended use as an ultraportable DAP.

We've had similar discussions to this one before. Some folks (like myself) are happy with the battery life of the Clip family. Others want more battery life. This groups needs what I call the Super Clip, larger & heavier with more battery life and probably a better screen at presumably a greater cost.

Personally I didn't see a large audience for the Super Clip before the Fuze was discontinued, but the Fuze+ hasn't covered that need. To me, it will be quite interesting when Sansa brings out the Fuze+ replacement (Fuze Zip?) presumably in Aug/Sept/Oct/Nov 2012 (depends where you live, as the Clip Zip is not available in Canadian stores as of yesterday). Will it be the Super Clip Zip or something else?

Naw. The Clip Zip's screen doesn't need to be physically larger, it just needs more pixels to fill that space. Something akin to the first generation iPod Nano's pixel density would suffice.

I've seen it misstated elsewhere on the net (on Wikipedia and the Rockbox wiki, for instance) that the Zip's screen is OLED, but it plainly isn't. (For print confirmation, I refer you to SanDisk's Clip Zip press release.)

I've never really checked the battery time on my Clip+, but as long as it at least gets 8 hours, I'm good to go. I primarily listen to it at work. Charging it up isn't that big of a deal.

SanDisk has misspoken -- even with the press release. It is an OLED but just not a very good one and one that needs color and grayscale calibration.

Hm. My apologies then, TexasRockbox. If the SanDisk does indeed use the Visionox M00230/M00231 OLED in the Clip Zip, they should be congratulated for locating the absolute worst color OLED on the planet. Great job, SanDisk!

SanDisk could improve things by changing the firmware to calibrate the display.
