Meanwhile... I've managed to fit velour pads on these things! Will post some photos when I can borrow my mate's SLR again.

They are a third party HD25 pad - I've had them lying around for ages as I bought the set for the velour replacement headband pads to go onto my Grado headband and increase the comfort.

All it involved was ripping the foam pads off their plastic base (which no one will ever use anyway so it shouldn't affect resale value much if I decide to move them on) and then stretching the velour pads over that base.

Does take a bit of elbow grease as they are just too small really, but once they are on they are on.

If I decide I like the sound I'll probably get some official Sennheiser velour HD25 ones as objectively these are pretty crappy quality.

It is very a small peel and does not bother me much. It may have rub against the zipper of my jacket.

Yeah sure, if my house mate with the SLR is in tonight I will get it done tonight. Need a night in after two work christmas parties in a row... getting too old for hangovers...

EDIT: I think I will get the official Senn velours - looking at a picture of them now and they have the same comfortable velour of the HD650 it seems. The type on the kind I have is horrible cheap fuzzy stuff...

Those "small" peels have a tendency of getting bigger over time. If something like that happened to me, I wouldn't care, but there are people out there who would freak. I've seen the same kind of thing happening on some ThinkPad notebooks. (They are made of a very similar material as I can see from the nice pictures you guys posted...)

Here's are a couple of photos of the velour pad mod. Need to get better pads. As you can see, they are slightly too small so there is a bit of the lip showing, but not a bad fit considering they weren't made for it:

Your hangover was cured pretty quickly. Thanks for the photos, might get some HD25 pads myself. A local music store even has them in stock.

Some nice single malt whiskey is helping, and not being at work anymore is doing wonders.

First impressions on the sound sig is that it is a less dark sound, but you lose some weight in the body. I haven't listened long enough to say for sure if I like them or not, but definitely want to try real Senn pads as I am certain they will be better anyway.
