Kinda a Noob question but.. What is Sound stage?

I sure ain't no expert but, here is my own understanding of "soundstage"...

How spacious the music appears to sound in your head from your cans/IEMs. Instead of music coming from say directly in front of you in your mind's ear, music seems to have some more depth and almost from the back of your head, thus surrounding you a bit. A sense of broadness...Make any sense?

I also associate this with how well my IEMs can fool me into hearing instruments that are recorded hard left/hard right - rightly or wrongly...And also stuff like around the drumkit rolls and fills, particularly stuff from guys like Neil Peart or Portnoy with large kits. See/hear the last 45 seconds of Rush's Tom Sawyer for what I mean.

Don't worry, a real explanation is, I am sure, coming... And I will be reading as well.

Ahh, that makes perfect sense, I did wonder if it meant something like that.

To me, sound stage is the most enjoyable part of listening to music. When you can close your eyes and hear where every instrument is coming from, when it sounds like the lead singer is only a few feet in front of you, singing to YOU. Usually you can't get this from headphones. Speakers provide a much much better sound stage.

Agreed Syndrome. No give those Panas a try - the soundstage is excellent IMO...
