The Zune Dock gives you access to videos, pictures, music, podcasts and the marketplace. The pictures do not have a slideshow option.

Yes, it's sold separately. You have two options, one includes the video and audio cables and a power adapter, this is $ 70 at amazon.

The other option does not include the power adapter and cables, but it's the exact same dock (same outputs, size, etc). I bought the second option (called the sync dock) because i had an extra hdmi cable to use, and because the dock includes a hard-wired USB cable so I could just plug this USB cable to my TV for powering the dock (so no power adapter needed). This option sells for $40 at amazon.

both include a remote (which has impressive range, i've had it work at a range of 30+ ft)

I would buy this one and then pick up a cheap HDMI cable from monoprice, where they are about $4 shipped and as good of quality as anywhere else.

not really that portable, was looking to use this for slide presentations. with the $40 option, you can just hook the usb to a regular ac charger and plug it right?

I suppose pretty much any regular charger will work. I've charged my zHD with carious generic USB chargers and i haven't experienced any problems. Also, the usb cable on the dock is about 3 feet long if i recall correctly, if that matters to you.
