Sorry, I always hate the search engines on forum sites... don't quite work right.
I am the proud owner of a 20$ 2gb Clip+, not my original choice, CompUSA ran out of stock before I could get the 4GB version for 19.99, but they had this one. I also picked up the Klipsch S2 earbuds they had for 19.99 also, so for 44 bucks I just purchased the absolute best setup I've ever owned. Had a classic Ipod 30gb with like 20 phones. Things I've noticed.. you can't turn the clip... or at least it doesn't look like the clip was made to, I could force it but it's not designed to. I unplugged it from the USB on the laptop the other day and it wouldn't turn back on for about 15 minutes... was just about to return for a new one and it magically worked. It is a refurb. As far as the rest, I'm not even going to begin to think I have any experience in audio quality, but I have read the Clip+ has a pretty high price/performance ratio. And the buds are the best I've owned. What do I need to do to this thing to increase it's P/P ratio? I'd like to start listening to high quality rips, the 2GB doesn't have the Micro expansion slot :-( but 200 songs is great.. so big question What bitrate/conversion format... yada yada am I looking at for about 100 songs on 2GB storage? Thanks, Jeremy |

Jeremy:
I expect that you will enjoy your new acquisitions. 1. The clip does not turn. 2. It can take a while to refresh the database depending on the quality of the mp3 tags, but a message displays on the screen while this is happening. And 15 min sounds long for a 2GB player. 3. no micro expansion slot? You have an ordinary Clip, not a Clip+. 4. I'll leave quality ripping to others, but there are some threads in the Software forum. http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...splay.php?f=23 Steve |

Then it's not a clip+, it's the original clip.

I tend to think 192kbps CBR mp3 is a good compromise between the sound quality and the file size. YMMV.

I would suggest updating the clip's firmware, and keep in mind as was said in the 2nd post you have a clip not a clip+.
You may also want to try rockbox as it works very well on the original clips and the rockbox forums here have plenty of information for you to browse through.

I always have appreciated using VBR (variable bit rate) when ripping. And it seems to make sense to me: use more space when needed for complicated sound, and less space for less-complicated sound (like silence).

Forgive my ignorance as I thought it was a clip+. Is the audio quality different between the two.. or just the MicroSD slot option?
Thanks for all the replies..... I've noticed that the Image S2 IEB's make a huge sound difference... amazing set of phones for 20 bucks imo. What's the deal with Rockbox? |
