I got a new red 4GB Fuze earlier this month, and I know this sounds like nitpicking but I can't help but notice how loud all the buttons are, not just the center button but the wheel directional 'buttons' as well. It's really loud clicking to the point where I'm embarrassed to use this on the train because I don't want to annoy other people, I get annoyed by noisy button clicking coming from someone else at 7am too. I had an e200 previously and the buttons were quiet like any other mp3 player. It's really disappointing, I was looking forward to this player and love everything else about but I'm actually on the verge of returning this and getting another sansa player or possibly another e200. I cringe when just pressing the >> button, and I don't even bother trying to play a game on rockbox, sounds like morse code. Does anyone else have this problem or don't find it a problem at all? It would be great if this is just a hardware issue, I ordered my fuze off Amazon but it wasn't open box or refurbished.
I was also thinking of returning this anyway because the battery life is terrible; lasts less than half a day with light use and brightness/volume. I use it with a micro sd and I heard that can drain battery life faster, but I never had that problem with the e200. Maybe another hardware issue? :/ |

The buttons sadly do make that much noise (at least, mine do). It is kind of embarrassing when I'm listening to music late at night in my room. I wonder if my room mates think I'm having some kind of a morse-code-sex-chat...
The battery should last longer though, IMO. Returning it might not be a bad idea. |

None of my Fuzes (several V1 and V2) make what I would consider to be more than a faint clicking sound. Definitely quieter than my keyboard, which is not particularly loud itself (my benchmark for LOUD keyclackers is the kind of keyboards that IBM used on the original PC/XT/AT) -- you ain't heard loud until you've been in the vicinity of a room full of clerks clacking away on their IBMs -- at least, back when they made those keyboards. (I read something a while back about some company making NEW keyboards using that same kind of switch -- some people really do like that kind of tactile/auditory feedback, but for most, I think it's headache-city after a while.)

m_k: those IBM's were THE BEST keyboards ever made
![]() I personally loved them and the inimitable tactile response I got with every keypress. Noisy as hell? Sure! But incredibly accurate as well, for a speedy, 6 finger hunt and peck guy like me. And that oversized ENTER key? Heaven... ![]() Back on point: To the OP, I also can see where you are coming from with the Fuze button sounds, but really, I don't feel it is too bad at all. I have never really noticed it at all until your post. Perhaps a silicone skin case might somehow dampen the sound a bit? Sunami: Sounds like you might need thicker walls
