Welcome to ABi:

I stopped buying Philips DAPs a while ago. The hardware was nice but the firmware was poor at best. It tended to corrupt easily and could only be restored using their firmware updater.

The firmware updater would only offer the firmware it was programmed to offer after it read the player. There was no option to load any other version of the firmware. It didn't matter if the firmware it was set to load was better or worse than another version, that's all you got.

If you are able to manually locate the firmware version you want I'd be very careful that it matches your players hardware exactly before attempting to install it. Firmwares are hardware specific. Trying to load a different version than the one that fits your hardware usually bricks the player beyond repair.
