with the view, what they should have done rather then worry about updating the firmware themselves just send the rockbox guys a box of views(hell referbs would work) and the white papers/datasheets for the damn things and let the RB team make a decent firmware for it, once that came out, host it as an optional replacement for the views firmware(for those like myself who dont care about the DRM features you would loose for example)

I would take having to deal with stripping the DRM or encoding the dvd myself with dvdfab/handbreak/exct over the HORRIBLE firmware the view had....

Somebody should put up a petition to keep the original fuze alive, if somebody puts one up, I will happily sign it, as would most people here I think, so would most people on the sandisk forums.

I see you've brought up Muse again lestatar (not my fault this time!!! ), never would have expected that to come up in a thread that talks about the first impressions of the Fuze+, but of course you know how popular Muse is. I bet TDS will put Muse on his Fuze+ just for you . Has any1 noticed that Muse and Fuze rhyme? It must mean that they were meant for each other , maybe thats how Muse got on this thread.

I don't know their music, so I have no opinion either way. Never heard anything but the twilight song.

Wow, haven't heard about the View in such a long time. Showed so much promise, then Sansa stopped caring. : sighs: I would still have my original View if it didn't freeze up/crash so often (and supported UMS/MSC). I liked the design (have big hands) and the sound quality was pretty good (about as good as the Fuze and Clip).

As for the petition, I would probably sign it as well. Even though I'm thinking of getting a iAudio9, I still like the Fuze as a cheap MP3 player. Heck, if mine didn't break (or if my warranty covered accidental damage) I would still have one. I actually like it more then the Clip+; Its just too damn small. >.<

They better not discontinue the Fuze, because I still need to get one in the future.

Regarding Muse: They're by far my favorite band live. I saw them when they came to Chicago and it was great.

I highly doubt that SanDisk will discontinue the Fuze anytime soon, considering how popular it currently is and how new the Fuze+ is, it just wouldn't make sense. I think you're good for another couple of months.

Regarding Muse: Indeed they are an even better band live. I read online that they are one of the best, if not the best live band today. Check out some of their live @ Wembley stadium 2007 YouTube videos...AMAZING. They had a concert here in Boston at the TD Banknorth Garden, simply amazing, YouTube it, I wish I could have made it, but I was too late (next time).

Discontinued from a manufacturer's viewpoint is "we won't make any more". If they still have them in the warehouse or supply chain, they will still be sold. But some colours and/or sizes will run out first.

For example, I noticed that a couple of local retailers only have pink versions of a discontinued camera left. Marked down, but still in stock. The replacement model started shipping in the spring.

i duno, I think the fuze+ seems more like a fusion of view and fuze in alot of ways, vuze would have been a good name but thats taken by an crappy torrent client :P

Is the Sigmatel chip an easy port (easier than a port to the AMS world) from the PortalPlayer chip(s) used in the View?

(I've been waiting with bated breath for someone to reveal which chipset they used in the "Fuze"+ -- I would have been surprised if it was the AMS, I was kinda suspecting them to use PortalPlayer stuff -- but, was assuming they'd go to a single core. IIRC the View uses TWO discrete PortalPlayer chips, due to the outboard video support, which is NOT an issue with the View+... I mean "Fuze"+ design.)

I'm using Mr. Magoo Metrics ;)

I take off my glasses, squint, and see two players that are roughly the same size, shape, form factory, feature set...

And then I see another player, off to the side, about half the size of those two big boys, with little in common with either of them.

Then I'm told that ONE of the big boys is really the son of that little guy, and I'm thinking "Yeah, sure, daddy -- I'll bet you still think it's a coincidence that your kids look like the milkman too. ;)

lol, funny thing about that annaligy you just made, a friend of mine and his siblings are all 6'+ their parents are both under 5'5" freakist family I have ever seen.

as to your metric, its a bit off, the fuze is like 2/3 the size of the fuze+ not 1/2 the size :P

oh and magoo couldnt have read the features list

Wow... you just reminded me of another piece of the puzzle that supports the idea that the Fuze has been discontinued.

My first Fuze died -- it went to Squaretrade -- they sent us a check covering the original price we paid, rather than repairing or replacing the Fuze.

In any event, I wouldn't buy Squaretrade for a Fuze with the idea of it protecting your ability to OWN a Fuze. It's still a good investment IMO -- they gave us a free shipping label to send in the dead one, and remitted the full payment without any grief or delay. But, if not for the fact that I already owned several more Fuzes, I'd have been really disappointed. And when the time comes that it's difficult to find a Fuze on the open market, it'll be even more disappointing.

PS: Squaretrade only covers "U-Broke-It" on NEW products, IF you pay for the rider, AND can accept a hefty deductible (I think it's like $50 deductible). And, IIRC, the"U-Broke-It" coverage only lives for six months or so after purchase.

For stuff where a heavy deductible is a dealbreaker, or, for refurbed gear, you can only get standard "it broke all on its own" coverage (i.e., warranty versus insurance).

However, your homeowner's policy MAY cover "I broke it" for some gear. (And, your rates may go up if you file a claim!
