As a reminder:
For those of you who might be having a problem with your Clip+ but don't still have your purchase receipt and yet might want to make a warranty claim, you should be covered under the player's original at least 1-year (in the U.S.) warranty even without a receipt until the 1-year anniversary of the player. As best I can tell and recall, SanDisk announced the Clip+ just under a year ago, on August 31, 2009. If you need warranty assistance, best to telephone SanDisk about it this week, as soon as possible and before August 31. In the U.S.: 1-866-SANDISK (726-3475). And other SanDisk contact information: http://www.sandisk.com/sandisk-support/contact-us. Just a reminder ... and so you have an up-and-running player.

I’m not sure about this and I hate to rain on the parade but unless they (SanDisk) explicitly stated a no receipt warranty is acceptable, I would believe this isn’t going to work. It’s their prerogative to require a receipt for any warranty claims.

Thanks. The reason I posted this is that SanDisk, apparently, has been honoring Clip+ warranty requests even without receipts, presumably because no Clip+ could yet be a year old or more (the period of the U.S. warranty).
Assuming that SanDisk hasn't changed that position, I just wanted to advise people not to let the 1-year anniversary of the Clip+ to go by unnoticed, with a wonky receipt-less Clip+ in a drawer someplace, which SanDisk might replace. |

I have seen this happen before. My bro had an Acer monitor with a 3 year warranty and we needed to send it in and we lost the receipt. So we still called Acer and they told us we was lucky because the monitor has not been out for more then 3 years anyway.

There are thosands of refurbs out there. The morning I got my Clip+ Woot sold close to 9000 of them. Tigerdirect/CompUSA sells them regularly. Sansa may be willing to replace those too just because they're less than a year old but I tend to doubt it.
2 of the 3 I received weren't marked as refurb in any way. The only one that was the "R" was on the clip. Snap that off, send them all back and exchange $65 worth Woot refurbs for $120-$130 worth of new players. The serial number? I just explain to them it won't boot or connect so I can't see the serial number. It's less than a year old so gimme. It may have been possible before this very public announcement. It's probably a lot tougher now. The people at Sansa read these forums too.

With all due respect, I doubt that this thread has done anything that SanDisk already isn't aware of, apart from perhaps to help people. SanDisk can always deny a warranty claim, and by the way, does not cover broken clips, perhaps for the reason in your how-to post.
