Lumigon T1: Is this ABI reviewable?

That seems like a YES!

Honestly, it would be very interesting to hear ABI views on some of the phones that advertise (and actually come through) with better sounding media. Between this and some of the new WP7's that advertise Dolby audio, we might be pushing closer to great sounding phones. Maybe with the weight you guys carry in the tech community, you can help push audio quality to the consumers. Ya know, if ya wanted to

Sexy it is, but ICEpower rings a bell. AFAIK the 2007 Samsung M7600 Beat DJ was one of the first mobile phones to use B&O's amplifier. Here's what GSMARENA wrote about its audio quality:

The M7600 Beat DJ has a Bang and Olufsen audio amplifier like a number of Samsung music-centered handsets. As usual, it's got nothing to do with sound quality, but only with power consumption efficiency.

Unfortunately we couldn't analyze the audio quality of the Samsung M7600 Beat DJ. It turned out the sound volume of the handset is too low to be recorded properly by our regular equipment. Subjectively, music sounds just fine with the supplied headphones but it's not as loud as needed by the equipment, which makes it way lower than any other phone we've tested.

I hope they have improved since. And of course ABi treatment would be nice.

However, it seems like one of those cheap knock-off players (HDMI output, FM transmitter etc) that promise heaps with the specs, but fails to perform.

Not saying this device is one of those, but it would be VERY interesting to know if a device had all those functions, and the engineers/developers had actually been able to implement them successfully.

Without knowing for sure my guess is that you’re right and there’s a lot of hype involved here too :/

Yeah, I go by the ol' Internet rule of "if it's too good to be true, it probably is."

On a related note, 520-something euros?? That's like (approx) $750 AUD which is like more the same price as the iPhone. If it is wanted to be picked up in hordes by the general public, the developers might want to lower then price a tad. JMHO

Or maybe it was Samsung that botched the implementation of the amp in their phone design. It was made for kids, after all, and seemed to be kind of a half-baked "DJ" toy.

The mobile chip is obviously in its 3rd generation already, and contains some interesting onboard DSP stuff, including a fully parametric 5 band EQ and some BBE-style bass enhancer and adaptive compressor. Of course, just cause the chip can handle such tasks doesn't necessarily mean that control of those functions is actually implemented in Lumigon's firmware.



Seems ICEpower designs are also used in some of those new Vox guitar amps. I've heard them, and they sound very nice. Of course a full blown guitar amp design can't be compared to a portable single-chip hifi amp driving headphones, but those are interesting applications nevertheless.

huh...had no clue that stuff used in vox amps...i have messed with a few of those recently...they do sound pretty ok...still, guitar amp ain't no DAP as you say dfkt

Nice find dfkt. That seems like some impressive tech. That would be awesome if they unleash the full power of the chip. It looks very hardcore (for portable work at least).
