I have been working some time on library for loading, rendering and interacting with tilemaps. I found wonderfull free editor TilEd <http://www.mapeditor.org/> which i am using to create maps. Java version of editor can export to Lua! Image for tiles are from TilEd and <http://reinerstileset.4players.de/> (great source of 2d tile images).
Some things tilemaps from TilEd can do:
in demos important file is Tiled.lua 1. demo shows simple one layer orthogonal map 2. demo shows multi-layered isometric map 3. example shows how to use library for basic rendering Last edited by delirius; 08-16-2010 at 03:42 PM. Reason: Added example of usage |

My only question is, how do you implement it in other apps? If for example I was to use it for rendering the map in my RPG, how would I go about that? (I'm just asking to know in case I make another game which needs it, right now I have solved the map rendering myself)

I already have most of the map rendering figured out in my game (Colonization), but I was wondering if I could borrow the pathfinding from you. My game is in Isometric view. Just post here or PM me. Thanks!

This isn't a game, it's a library you can use to make a game.
