To my knowledge, usually 2 large firmware updates every year in the spring and in the fall.

There are exceptions, like the update that came like a month after the ZuneHD came out, but that was for bug fixes and some new options...

Well, these apps are already out, so -- if they are indeed the ones that bred Dave's excitement -- he can certainly say "yes."

By the way - this is no-win question for me. You've given me grief in the past because I've been excited by stuff which you haven't been.

I get that.

Also understand, that for a device that explicitly wasn't designed for application support, I'm stoked that I'm able to get content out. I'm also stoked that I'm able to KEEP getting content out AND that more is to come.

So - kind of a loaded question, and kind of a non-answer from me. Sorry I can't tell you exactly what is coming and when. We're changing the delivery schedules pretty regularly to accommodate the resourcing of the team and partner teams.

since you cant tell us what is coming how about telling us what is not coming. that way we wont keep our hopes up for what we might think is coming. because many of us are hoping for html5 or some type of flash. might as well sink the ship down.

Thats funny. The back of my ZHD box says "Games" on it and there's been an app section in the marketplace since the Zune HD was released.

Neither Flash nor HTML 5 is coming, and I can confirm that.

On the HTML 5 front, the only web browser supported is IE 6 mobile. MS has stopped developing this platform, though the Zune HD version doesn't have the most recent changes. There's a few more things the Zune team can do with the browser, but they can't include HTML 5 support. Heck, MS didn't even include HTML5 support on WP7.

As for Flash, it's adobe's decision to make a compatible client (Flash 10.1 isn't, but Flash 7 and Flash Lite 3.1 are). However, the Zune HD doesn't have the specs for Flash Lite 3.x. Flash 7 would be semi pointless, but should be able to run to a degree.

That's a bit confusing, considering Flash 10 was supposed to be engineered with the Tegra chip in mind. Does it have to do with the OS, not the hardware?
