I was able to recreate the subfolder issue here. I always just dumped all my files in a directory under photos, and didn't split them up into numbered subdirectories. It appears the sansa only looks into the folder, and if it sees no files it skips it without checking the subdirectories. The work-around will be to have it generate folders like "ebook 001-100", "ebook 101-200", with no subdirectories.

Ok, the new version should work with subdirectories, I've also added a button to copy them to the player

would it be possible to make it so i can choose how the filenames are outputted, so i can just have each filename as the page number it is?
it seems redundant to have the book title as the folder, then the book title page number for filename.

also, in txt files if i have a dialouge like this:

"hi"
"hello" he responded

it comes out like this:
"hi""hello" he responded

the lines don't seem to break where they should

aaannndddd... when i try to convert .htm files it shows all of the html markup, not the text generated by it (as if i was to view it in a browser)

that's all i found

Hi, I got my sansa a week ago, and I added some ebooks in pdf file to my sansa. The problem I'm having is that when listen to a song while I'm trying to read the images, after a few seconds it goes back to the song, and I have to constantly go back to the Photo section and open the image again.
Can anyone please help?

I leave the backlight on when reading. I realize this only happens when listening to music, but does not happen when I listen to the radio.

I'm not sure what would cause that ... does this occur on other fonts besides Arial?

It would be real nice to be able to process a txt file of contact info for people that looked something like this:

<%Jane%>
Jane Doe
cell: 123-456
work: 234-4567
email: jd@whatever.com
<%Fred%>
Fred Smith
123 Some St.
Anytown ...

You can probably guess the rest...
Resulting images named "Jane.bmp", "Fred.bmp", ...
Great way to easily maintain a folder of contacts (or other things).
Also, when building images this way (i.e. when filename is specified), leave the line breaks as they appear.

Good idea. At least you can still do it, manually tough.

That shouldn't be too hard, I'll look into it

jason, while you're at that, try adding a .jpeg output as well.
Please?

I also have an issue when trying to make an eBook on my Sansa. I loaded my story as a Notepad (.txt) file, then I copied it to my desktop. I then pasted this ebook to my Sansa in MSC mode, under My Album, then I disconnect and restart the player. But when I open the photo menu, no story shows up. Please help? How exactly do I get my story file to my player?

Default A comment from newbie.

Great work Jason. Just some little notices.

1. Cyrillic text isn't still being supported until you install some old-style cyrillic non-unicode true-type font from Windows 3.x/95/98. To my mind you'd better add an "Select codepage" option, which will allow non-english users to convert ebooks as well as English.
2. Unhandled exception when font does not support style 'Regular'.
Code:
System.ArgumentException: Font 'Aharoni' does not support style 'Regular'.
   at System.Drawing.Font.CreateNativeFont()
at System.Drawing.Font.Initialize(FontFamily family, Single emSize, FontStyle style, GraphicsUnit unit, Byte gdiCharSet, Boolean gdiVerticalFont)
   at System.Drawing.Font..ctor(String familyName, Single emSize)
   at eBook.frmMain.GenerateEbook(Boolean Preview)
   at eBook.frmMain.cboFont_SelectedIndexChanged(Object sender, EventArgs e)
   at System.Windows.Forms.ComboBox.OnSelectedIndexChanged(EventArgs e)
   at System.Windows.Forms.ComboBox.WmReflectCommand(Message& m)
   at System.Windows.Forms.ComboBox.WndProc(Message& m)
   at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m)
   at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam)
3. Unhandled exception when pressing "Copy to Player" when player hasn't been connected. I was not able to repeat this error. After making another attempt converted ebook was copied into the folder "False" inside the program folder.

Make sure you copy the folder into the PHOTO folder on the Sansa. The player will only recognize one folder deep, so PHOTO\Blah\*.mp3 will work, but PHOTO\Books\Blah\*.mp3 won't.

Ok, here's a new version. It's not official yet, it needs some testing. You can only here it here:

http://www.merlinsoftware.com/ebook/preview.zip

It supports templates:
<%filename1%>
text
text
<%filename2%>
text
text
etc.

I've added an option to toggle how it details with returns at the end of every line, which some eBooks have. It normally detects the best way to deal with them and ignores them when needed, but you can also force it to use them. May fix some books, but it's mainly for use with templates.

Fixed an issue with putting all images into a single folder

I added some error checking so if the "regular" font type isn't supported, it tries all the others, ie bold, italic.

I've split the text into the sidebar settings into several different tabs.

...and several other small GUI tweaks

I was unable to recreate the problem with the automatic copy to player issue.

If you have a font it doesn't work with, please send the font file here so I can try it.

Any other feedback would be appreciated.
