Default No album art in MSC mode

Here's my problem:

I can sync all my music and stuff just dandy with WMP11 in MTP mode, but when I go to MSC to update my album artwork, the only media files that show up are the recordings... Not even the folders for the music show up. Why is this? I really want album artwork on my player, but can't seem to get any.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I think its also having troubles recognizing parts of the player. Thats right, not the player itself, but parts as certain folders don't display, and it doesn't display the player name in MSC.

While I can't really recommend any specific fix regarding WMP, I cannot recommend enough scrapping WMP and using either Media Monkey or Winamp. I use Media Monkey and use the very easy tagging feature which 99% of the time guarantees album art to show up on your Fuze by simply embedding the artwork in the ID3 tags.

@Fesuasda: No expert, but I believe you are experiencing a known issue with Sandisk players connected to PCs being unable to see media placed on the device using both MTP and MSC modes. Best practice is to select 1 USB mode and stick with it forever as this eliminates the hassle.

Also, heartily agree with glove4 - WMP might be ok for some people, but simply cannot compare to more full featured and better behaved applications like MediaMonkey and Winamp [which are also free].

As for album art:
- there are several methods and people usually fall into 1 of 2 camps - those who like to embed their album art into the ID3 tags or those who use folder.jpg method.

Research the 2 and decide which is best for you.

I personally prefer embedding my artwork and have done it for all 14k+ tracks of my mp3 collection. I have had zero issues with displaying album art on any of my AA capable players for the last 10 years.

cheers and good luck,
-lestatar

Lestatar is right in general. The only thing I couldn't get to work was embedded artwork.

The Sansa e2xx players can't be effectively managed in both MTP and MSC modes. If you add files in one mode when you switch to the other you can't even see what you added. To make it worse the Sansa hides the default Music folder. It doesn't matter if you rename it or change it in the Properties menu when you reboot it hides itself again.

Pick a mode and stick with it. I found MSC was much more manageable than MTP. I'd create folders by album name and place mp3s and the album artwork in there. Just rename The AA to folder.jpg and it worked every time. Embedded artwork was iffy at best. I tried a variety of taggers with varying degrees of success, mostly failure.

I dealt with the peek-a-boo Music folder by creating a folder on the player named Tunes and dropping the album folders inside there. The Sansas database would sort everything out, most of the time. Sometimes it doesn't refresh and you have to go in and manually delete the database to force a refresh.

The Sansa e2xx series is not a bad player but I would definitely not try to manage it in MTP. Doing everything in MSC is a bit clunky but it's the most reliable method I was able to develop.

Okay so if I want to go with the folder.jpg method should I just back up the player, format it, and stick with MSC? If so will I still be able to sync using a media player as well as manually adding AA?

I still have the e260 and it runs fine, a few points I didn’t see above.

1 – If you use embedded album art, keep in mind that the e200 series will not display AA over 32kb, you can resize your art as I’ve done or there’s some tools available to batch resize your art in the e200 forums.

2 – Although I do not use WMP, there are those that say it works fine for them, for album art look here.

3 – Keep in mind that the player only supports the .jpg format and if you go folders, name “album art.jpg”

4 – Mp3Tag is a good tool that can handle all your tagging and embedded art and it's free.

Alright I formatted the player and started with MSC. Still no folders display. This is getting a little frustrating. Any other solutions?

Tell us exactly:
- what you did;
- what you see in Windows Explorer when you connect.

Only way we can even begin to try and help you... :-)

Been working at this since yesterday after I admitted failure when I tried it a few years ago. Like you I get nothing when I tried WMP again today. MSC or MTP. Even after tagging my files with Mp3tag the files would transfer but not the AA with WMP.

The results with MediaMonkey and MTP however have been a 100% success. I've been using MediaMonkey for file transfers to my Sony as some of the tags get dropped with MTP drag and drop. Figured what the heck and gave it a try.

When I used MM to embed the tags and sync the files over everything transferred correctly.I don't know why WMP isn't doing this for me as well. I quite possibly have it setup wrong or I'm missing a step.

MediaMonkey is free and does most things very well. It has some important limits, the biggest to me is that ,mp3 support is limited to 30 days. However if you follow the directions on their site and replace the lame_enc.dll file in the install folder with the one from RareWares you get unlimited .mp3 encoding.

You do know that the e200 series does not have folder mode, you would need to rockbox the player for that. On the other hand if you prefer to stay with the OF if you ID3 tag all your music correctly it appears as folders (the OF only reads tags). For example: Artist, album, music and under the same artist you can have numerous albums ...

Edit: honestly I haven't run the OF for years since I rockboxed mine but I can boot the OF and describe if you wish as my tunes are all tagged, as I said above mp3tag can help you with that too.
