Default C+ bizzare auto voice recording naming issue - time related

Hi,

First off I own the Clip+, and am very happy. However, I have used the voice recording capability recently for some ecological survey work where I need to record my voice counting things.

Unfortunately I have learned too late that my C+ is doing two very odd things. Firstly, any recordings under 4/5 seconds are NOT saved. I have confirmed this via experiementation. This isn't too much of an issue though.

Secondly, and this is a big issue for me as it's currently making it impossible to use THREE days worth of data collection:

Ostensibly the C+ labels each new voice recording with the date and time you started recording at. The date is always correcte, however I have found that the time is sometimes correct and often not.

It often seems to 'stretch' out over the course of recording many times, e.g. say at 16.00 I make a recording it will have the correct time, over the course of 10mins when I make various recordings between 30secs to 1/2 mins each the final few are labelled as being recorded anything up to 30 mins further in time than when they really were.

As there appears to be no logical pattern to this that I can see I can't tell when I made any recording, and therefore can't use them.

Has anyone encountered this, and more importantly knows the pattern or how I can work out how the .wav labels actually relate to the real time they were recorded at???

Thanks

Extra: I've also found that this is related to the system time. This will also change and 'stretch' so from being accurate to within a minute can become extremely fast after doing some recording. Bizzare.

I only own the clip. I did notice a problem at the start of a recording, so I start a couple of seconds before capturing the real stuff.
The regular clip saves using a sequential file number, I wonder if the date/time stuff is an option.
In any case, you should be able to determine the recorded sequence by displaying the directory contents on the computer. Even if system time is wrong, the date/time stamp sequence should be ok.

Perhaps not, depending on what level it's getting confused at...

Have you considered installing Rockbox? It's free, quite capable of recording stuff too - and appears in my brief experiments to timestamp things correctly.

Would give you another option if Dave's suggestion doesn't work.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately it does only file stamp the same (wrong) date and time as the file name.

I'm sure Rockbox is great, but I've just binned my three wasted days work and started again, and this time I just make sure all files are >5 seconds, and I verbally record the date/time at the start of each of my surveys.

What a ball ache, but lesson learned. Do a complete trial run when doing things like that first!
