Default Sansa Error message on Vista

I occasionally look at my event log to see any problems that regularly
occur.

Whatever does it mean with this error:
Windows installed generic PnP Driver to support Sansa device. Manufacturer may be able to supply software.

This error appears over and over in the log.
Thanks,

Is your Sansa in Auto-Detect mode?

Do you need MTP for anything you listen to.....audiobooks, rhapsody music, etc.? If not, simply use the MSC USB mode, and the problem should disappear. Auto-detect does nothing but cause problems.....best to choose either MTP or MSC.

If you do need MTP, do you remove the cable from your computer when you unplug your Sansa? If that is the case, try leaving the cable connected, but unplugging the cable from the player itself.....that may stop the error message.

I use the same cable to connect my Sony E345(MTP) and my Clip+(MSC) to my Win 7 computer, and I leave the cable hooked to the computer all the time.....I have yet to see the message you describe.

I don't see this as an error message. All it's saying is that Windows has installed the driver for connecting to the Clip, as Windows does.

It shouldn't have to do it over and over though.

I long ago gave up in understanding why Windows does what it does. If it works, that's the deal.

I listen to audio books from audible or I put book CDs that I've ripped on the clip.
What would happen if I stay on auto detect and leave cable in machine? I'm the person
who has written in quite a bit because I have 7 sansa clips and clip+'s. No wonder so
many messages because I do take the cable out each time.

It's worth a shot, yeah.
