Question Industructable MP3 Player?

Hey Everyone,

Well my gf is really hard on electronics, the last mp3 player she had lasted less than 3 days... (she rolled on it in her sleep, and she's like 115lbs..., so that wasn't her fault completely...) anyways for xmas she's been tossing out several ideas and for a while she wanted a MP3 player, then a digital camera, now a mp3 player.. good thing I procrastinated to the last minute eh?

So I'm looking for advice on what you would suggest as a really really sturdy mp3 player. It doesn't have have the best color screen or anything, but I don't want it to have no other features either..

The only last thing it has to be.... anything but ipod!

Sony has a Sports Walkman that has an aluminum body. It's the "S2" series.
E.g., Sony S2 Flash Sports 2GB Digital Music Player (NWS205FBLACK).

"Built to last: The new Sony S2 Flash Sports Digital Music Player is built to last. The water-resistant composition and one-line organic EL display make this tiny MP3 player easy to take with you anywhere and without worry that it will break."

The problem with Sony's seems to be their proprietary software.

Best you forget Sony as fast as you can... their restrictive policies and SonicStage software are terrible.

iRiver T10/T20/T30 are pretty sturdy players, they're designed for sports and working out. I read on several occasions that the Samsung K5 should be pretty rugged, too - despite the built-in speakers (the K3 is the same without speakers). Most Monolith players are made of aluminum, but I don't know if that company exists anymore.

you can't get around the Sony software? Are the IRiver's simple like drag and drop to add files?

No, there's no way around the horrible Sony software.

You can update some iRiver players to simple drag'n'drop operation, but right out of the box they aren't.

Another recommendation would be the iAudio U2 or U3 - they're also very sturdy built, and sound even better than the iRiver players. And they are fully UMS/drag'n'drop.

I think were gonna go with the IAudio U3, she seems to like that one the most, I'm letting her choose it because then if anything happens to it I can blame her for it!

Good choice, this player (and for blaming the g/f in advance)!

If you have the money go for the SAMSUNG YP-K5.. Supposedly the strongest MP3 Player out there. There's a video on youtube of a guy running over it with his car and it still worked flawlessly.

Here ya go!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWxCzFgNM2A
