Default Back in the saddle w/ iAudio 7

I recently found my iAudio 7 after loosing it for a nearly 8 months. Is there any point to upgrading my software to jetAudio 8.0.6 Basic?

I can't even remember out how to use it. Is there a users manual on this forum?

We have the newest firmware V1.18 and manual in sticky threads in the i7 forums. I also recommend the bigger fonts hack here. I’ve been using my i7 again for weeks now even though I have the newer i9, I really love this little player.

Thanks, you have me up and running. I' have firmware (as well as jetAudio 8.0.6 Basic which is playing music and overtaking two screens of real estate.)What's it supposed to do.

I have water retention. Has confusing firmware ever caused Prostate problems?

Seriously, WalkGood, thank you very much.

I can use use Windows Explorer and do the deal with my music straight to COWON's root drive? My computer sees the COWON iAudio 9 root as I:<whatever>.

My music is well organized on D:Music>Foobar2000>Alpha by Artist and is all tagged by Mp3tag.

I can just drag from D and drop to I?

Sounds like it's already in msc mode, so yes. If not check in settings/general/usb connection/ums. Also if your pc has "allow hidden folders" to be viewed there is a music folder there under your "I" drive letter or what ever letter it mounts on.

WalkGood.

Thanks again for writing. Re msc mode and ums folder: "If not check in settings/general/usb connection/ums", I do not know what msc stands for or where the settings are. Are you referring to "Documents and Settings"? Is there a longer address starting with the Workstation's Drive letter ("C:\Documents and Settings" in my case).

When my iAUDIO 7 device boots up (separate from PC), the first screen shows:

semicircular arc of icons (descriptive term by me).

The second screen shows:

"iAUDIO > no music".

The third screen shows:

> iAUDIO
> bookmark
> Dynamic Play List
> MUSIC
> PICTURE
> RECORD
> TEXT
> VOICE

Does this help at all to clarify the msc mode and whether I have a ums folder?

When I go through All Programs > COWON Media Center - jetAudio > jetToys JetShell - Smart Backup & Device Manager for COWON Players, I get this selection screen from which my device (COWON iAUDIO 7) is conspicuously absent.

Thoughts?

MSC, UMS and USB are all the same thing depending on who’s talking, they all refer to mass storage class device which is like a thumb drive, read more here.

Main screen in the i7 has icons for music, video, FM radio, record, picture, text and settings. To change the mode of the player it’s under the last icon that looks like a gear and that is “settings” that’s what I was referring to in the other post. If you change the setting to USB connection then your i7 will mount like a thumb drive and you can drag & drop to it.

Not sure what you mean by your last post, but I assume you are having issues due to mtp connection and trying to use jetaudio software.

Edit: to view hidden files and folders, open windows explorer, click on tools, folder options, view tab, click on radial button under hidden files and folders to show hidden files and folders. Now you can see the folders in device when you connect in msc mode.

WalkGood, thanks. I read the "The USB mass storage device class or USB MSC" in Wikipedia. It finally made sense. I'm down to one last question.

When I have the Settings gear-wheel highlighted, how to I change the setting to its USB connection, or "thumb drive" functionality?

Under the Settings icon, do I move the cursor to Setting > General > File Browser > File then drag and drop the song files from my workstation database [D:\Music\Foobar2000\ <tagged song>] to the COWON i7 root drive [I:\ ]? This is assuming I have "thumb drive" functionality established for file transfer.

Alternately, is it something else under settings? I'm sorry to have so much trouble. I have read the pdf and am not trying to take advantage of your good nature. Two years ago I knew how to do this. Apparently I'm losing IQ points.

Take Care.

IIRC it's the last one on the general list like: settings > general > usb connection > (change here to) UMS.

I also find running file folder browsing better --> Setting > General > File Browser > File, makes the i7 more intuitive. Also I have my firmware patched with the "large font" mod, a sticky in the i7 forum, this is a must over the cowon stock fonts

WalkGood,

Cool! So my extant:

Setting >
General >
File Browser >
File

should work for me, and God knows how it got there. When I'm on two cylinders, my mind basically functions like Windows Explorer and the simplicity of my music organization on its own HDD is testimony to that.

I'm giving it a go with the super-font mod. 'sounds like a crop of some Southern Oregon Sinsemilla from the eighties. A guy can hope. And they all thought SOSC was Southern Oregon State College.

I'll check it.

Edit: I checked and worked fine for me, but I used 7-zip

I downloaded 7-zip and got an error extracting V1-U3FontPatch.zip:

1. An Attempt was made to move the file pointer before the beginning of the file.[]

'two for two on failed extractions. Any thoughts? Bad karma?

For some reason it doesn't work with my rar either, I used 7-zip (it's free) and opened archive. If you do it right (I did it on desktop) you will see an icon of a cowon U3 appear with it, double click it and point to where you unzipped the i7 firmware files within a folder. If it runs successfully it will tell you, then you just do a normal fw upgrade per cowon instructions.

I hate to say it but I've failed. I cannot extract the files out of the zip. I hate going down to defeat, but I'll live to fight another day. I just wish I had the darn executable. I have ten-thousand ways to move around files biggger than 40k.

Oh well, life is pain.

Thanks a million for trying to help me.

Did you try downloading 7-zip and opening the archive, that works.

Edit: I got to run now, bbl
