I'm also having button problems with an E344. Most of the time, the buttons are just unresponsive. I can sometimes unfreeze them by sliding the Hold switch on and off. But then, more often than not, I get the runaway scrolling phenomenon, or the buttons just do things they're obviously not supposed to do, like when the up and down buttons just scroll up.

I've also got two problematic E345's (the 16GB model). The problems are not button-related, but it would still be useful to know how to take them apart.

Don't do it, as these players are designed to become damaged if attempting to open them. Contact Sony to RMA the device.

Don't you need a proof of purchase of some sort to RMA it?

Yup, and without it your out of luck. Besides, it's a very inexpensive player - just buy a new 1 to replace it with.

I have more mp3 players than I know what to do with. It's a hobby of mine, or rather an obsession, to buy or retrieve from recycling bins mp3 players and other gadgets and, to the extent possible, fix them. I hope against hope that sooner or later I will have gotten enough for ones I sell to compensate for the money I've spent (though not for my time).

As a side hobby, I contribute information I gather about various players to forums like this one.
