Default Clip+ Output Rating

Does anyone know what the mW output is on the Clip+? I did a search on Google, couldn't find anything, other than someone on a forum claiming it was "capable" of 60mW. Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find anything using search. Thanks.

I honestly do not know the Clips rated output but I find that 60mW hard to believe because I have both the clip and the i7 (26mW + 26mW = rated at 52mW) and it appears to me that the i7 is more powerful.

Well, I found the link to what I was talking about. I guess he's saying that's what the power rating is for AS3525 chip from Austriamicrosystems. http://sansa.lithium.com/sansa/board....id=2684#M2684

Here's the specs page for the AS3525 chip: http://www.austriamicrosystems.com/e...crocontrollers

Sorry, but I don't understand too much of the technical jargon.

I think he confused the specs as I read from their page on the AS3525 chip that it is capable of:
Quote:
  • Stereo Headphone Audio Amplifier - 2x 60mW @ 16Ω driver capacity
  • Stereo Speaker Audio Amplifier - 2x 500mW @ 4Ω driver capacity
  • MP3 playback with 58mW
But it would also depend on what SanDisk implemented in their fw.

Right, I agree. I would like to find some specs on it from Sansa, but I can't find anything. It's just a curiosity thing...

It's hard to say....it seems to have noticeably less output than my Sony players, and Sony claims 5mW/ch for all of their players. But many have speculated that Sony under-rates their players.

So I guess the answer is no, I don't know what the output of the Clip+ is.

I just e-mailed Sansa and asked them. I don't expect to get a response, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

And the response was, "Thanks for emailing SanDisk Technical Support. It is our goal to make sure you have all the resources you need to get the most from your product.

We do not publish power output for the Sansa Clip+. However, just to give you an idea of its impedence, it is 16ohms - 64ohms."

That's all I got...

I'm not surprised.

I wasn't surprised either. What did surprise me was that they actually answered, lol.

In the official SanDisk forums, I've read some responses from their Tech Support that people have copy/pasted from emails, and sometimes it looks like they don't have the faintest idea what they are talking about. I can only hope that the posters were paraphrasing.....

Hi. I found this thread while looking for an answer to the subject, and after mailing Sansa I got this response.

Quote:
Thanks for emailing SanDisk Technical Support. It is our goal to make sure you have all the resources you need to get the most from your product.

Here is the information your requested:

Specification of maximum output power for Sansa Clip+ as well as Clip and Fuze (File playback) is 18mW +-1mW @16Ohm load. Impedance range is 16-32 ohms.

I'm skeptical here, why would they not answer one person, then suddenly answer another?

Indeed, I guess the first help desk guy was just too lazy to look it up. It's not like those specs are a corporate secret. 18mW per channel into 16 Ohm sounds very realistic.

I initially began my research because the person I am purchasing the item for has a rate-responsive pacemaker, and needs to know the power output of his personal devices. The chance of interference is low, but people who wear pacemakers tend to err on the side of caution. I informed Sansa of this in my contact, and was forwarded to someone after the first contact said he couldn't help. Kudos to Sansa for not being stubborn about it.

I've since purchased a Clip+ for him and a Fuze for myself, and we're both loving the players. Really impressive sound for the size/price. Couldn't be happier.

Well, I'm glad you guys are enjoying them, and that someone there actually answered your question. These players really are a great value.

Thanks =) I'm glad I found this site.

Oddly, I noticed that the Clip+ seems just a wee tiny bit less powerful. Maybe that's not the right word. Like, the Fuze is a tad louder/punchier and the sound is a bit more forward, fuller. Same file/type/earphones. Turning up the volume on the Clip+ seems to compensate, so it could just be the way they're calibrated with the volume interface. It's nothing of concern in the least, just a small observation. Could also be my ears playing tricks on me.
