MTP Troubleshooting This document is for all mp3 players with a choice of MSC/MTP mode. If the player will not work correctly in MTP mode, then these steps may help (in no particular order, and not all relevant in every situation): -If the player is set to Auto Detect, but Windows sees it as a MSC device, here’s what to do: open Device Manager, find the USB Mass Storage Device for the player, right-click on it and choose Update Driver. After that, check if it shows up as an MTP device. -Try to add the device manually. Plug the player in while it’s set to MTP mode. Open Device Manager, and Add Hardware. Tell it that you have already connected the hardware. In the list, choose “Add a new hardware device” at the bottom. Choose “Install the hardware that I manually select from a list.” Choose Portable Devices, then MTP device. -Install the WMP 10 patch from the Microsoft website. Go to www.microsoft.com and search for 902344. -Try the instructions at the following link (registry hack): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911091/EN-US -Rhapsody 4.0 has some helpful files with it (typically in C:\Program Files\Rhapsody) (still working on adding descriptions of what exactly these files do) -RhapDrmClean.exe -Delete Helix Licenses -Update Helix Components -Update Windows Components (the 2 delete ones and the update one are all shortcuts which point to rhapdrmclean.exe – M.Lengyel 12/02/06) -Recreate the DRM system folder (only use this step when MTP mode is working, but subscription songs won’t transfer to the player). 1. Open My Computer, go to Tools, Folder Options, View tab, uncheck “Hide protected operating system files. 2. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users and rename the DRM folder to “DRM Old.” (If it will not let you, then close all other programs and try again.) 3. Reboot the computer and restart Rhapsody/Napster. It should generate a new DRM folder. -Format using Windows Media Player (only works if MTP mode is already showing up, but songs won’t transfer): Version 10: go to the Sync tab, click on the “format storage media” button. Version 11: click the down arrow below the Sync tab, Device options, Format -Install the firmware update if not done already (if there is one for this model). -Make sure you have Windows XP (at least SP1) and WMP 10 or 11. -If you want to, you can try the fix.zip from the following 3rd party website. http://www.misticriver.net/showthread.php?t=30939 -Make sure player is plugged directly into a back USB port, not the front and not into a hub. -If all else fails, try it on a 2nd computer. It could end up being a power issue or an operating system issue.

Make this a sticky, I'm sick of looking at posts about questions about MTP, wish everyone would just use MSC and be done with it, lol

its not known as auto detect in an e200, it just says MTP. and if you connect it while it is in MTP mode, and it shows up in MSC... you could try those earlier steps to fix it

Found this at the Sansa site. It fixed the issue I was having with my Creative Zen Vision M 30 GB. The system worked for a long time, then just recently stopped. WHen I plugged anything new like an LG phone, or the Creative Zen, it gave me the error code 10 MTP device BS.
Hope someone finds this as useful as I did. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you are receiving error code 10 when trying to connect your device in MTP mode try the solution below and let us know if it works. -Make sure you are logged in as an administrator -Open your command prompt (Start->Run->"cmd"->press Enter) -Type the following: Net localgroup Administrators local service /add Special Thanks to ilhooper http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/boar...=624&jump=true |

Hi,
This evening I connected my Zen and got a code 10 MTP device error. The pc would recognise the player as an MTP device, "yellow triangle" in device manager, unload it and repeat in an endless loop. I thought WMP11 had become corrupted (it did befor on the other comp) so uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times. No joy. Was getting nowhere. Then I thought "well it was working last week, what has changed?", and started turning off progs I recently installed. The one that MTP was unwilling to play nicely with was a little screen-tab prog called Stick. I turned that off and it detected the Zen right away. Then turned Stick back on again and both were happy to be on after that. Weird. But it's worth checking for program conflicts by turning things off one at a time in task manager. It worked for me. |
