Default Clip+ = Good!

I recently purchased a 4GB Clip+ to replace a blown up fuze. (which screen of death no matter what I did and I did it all including cracking it open and shorting the pins)

I was worried about the clip being to small. I used if for the first time while riding my Uni AND I LOVE THE LITTLE THING! I had it on my collar and I soon forgot it was even there. I do fumble with the buttons and bit but I will get used to them. The menus are functional and since I was used to the Fuze pretty intuitive.

This little feller is going to get a lot of use this summer.

I do plan to replace my fuze at some point. But for working out I have trouble imagining a better device and at an awesome price point.

I like that if I drop it its not heavy enough to to pull the headphone cord out. That will save some bounces off the floor.

After being worried about the small size, after two days I'm already getting used to it.

I know this is earth shattering news for the people in this forum but wanted to let others new that all my fears about the clip were unfounded and I needed not worry.

4GB Clip+ (blue)
2GB SD Card
.ogg files ripped and encoded at -q 6
Ripping Encoding done with Asunder and Banshee

All and all pretty durn happy with my purchase. I kind payed a lot at $44 but I really wanted it for the next day so it came from Best Buy.

By the way I love this forum. I don't post much but I read a lot.

I already adore mine, and I don't have RB on it.

No, I haven't. And I didn't mean that to come across as anti-Rockbox, if that's what you're thinking....I'm just saying it does what I need it to do already.

You really should try it out for a few months, I would think you for one would love the additional functionality and if you don’t like it, it can easily be removed.

I haven't ruled out trying it at some point....but I confess to a touch of the "lestatar syndrome"-the fear of ruining my player.

If my Sony players supported podcasts, and not just music, then I could look past the thought of potentially hurting the Clip+, but they don't....so as my most-used player, I'm hesitant to try tinkering with it.

Hold on cowboy! I never said I was afraid of ruining my Fuze - not completely what I meant, especially since I have admittedly been dragging my feet a bit. And I certainly don't want it to appear that I have anything but the utmost respect and confidence in the Rockbox team!

As you know I have a second Fuze on order - since the current RB build has not been declared officially stable, I have decided to get a second Fuze as an immediate guinea pig [plus, as an old IT guy, I am a big believer in redundancy and failover]. But most importantly, I have never ever been an early adopter of anything - I prefer to wait until official word comes and the blessing is given for a stable release.

Any actual fear I may have of bricking my Fuze [Fuzes'] using the current RB port is probably only in the 5-10% zone - many many folks have reported wonderful results thus far and I see no reason why my own experience would be any different. But knowing myself, I would hate even the tiniest bugs that have not yet been ironed out by the Fuze/RB gang simply because that's the kinda guy I am... And since I have every confidence that these few reported bugs will definitely be resolved by the RB folks, why not wait? At present the Fuze does what I need it to do, for the most part.

I am nothing if not patient at times.

However, the Clip+ has been declared stable - so what are you waiting for Mr. Alien Martian-head?

Oh and I prefer that "lestatar syndrome" refer to something else, something more complimentary like:
- taking crappy pictures
- typing excessively long posts
- drinking/chasing skirts/playing pool too much

lol

You are mixing things: the fuze(v1) is stable and the Clip+ is unstable (just check www.rockbox.org)

funman: I stand corrected! So very sorry - in any event, no doubt official stable releases for all RB will be imminent. :-)

Asides from the whole stability thing, I refer you to posts #5 and #7....I already love the little thing, the way it is.

Am I a little curious, about what else it might do? Sure....but on the other hand, if you were to ask me is there anything I wish the Clip+ could do, that it doesn't already, I'm not sure what I would come up with.

The first thing many people would bring up would be the battery life....but that has not been an issue for me thus far.

The second thing people would probably bring up is gapless playback....as is, the Clip+ is pretty close...some albums are seamless, some, if I really try to hear it,in a dead-silent room, there is a faint click-type sound....but if I am not actively trying to hear it, I don't notice it, to be honest.

Third(and these three may be in a different order depending on who you talk to) would be the custom EQ, which is universally praised. The Sansa OF one isn't great, but I can get the sound I want with the headphones I have.....which is the whole point of the EQ, right?

I am most intrigued, at this point, by the improved battery life people are reporting. So at some point down the road, I'll probably give it a shot....but I'm in no hurry.

Still sounds like someone suffers from the "lestatar syndrome" or should we now call it the "Martian syndrome"

Not as far as I know as he just rockboxed last night, it was an irc razzing long before this post here and now it looks like lestatar trumped the martian even though he's been here for a shorter period of time
