Default 8GB Clip+ For $39.99

I actually got this link from head-fi. Hell of a deal. I apologize if we're not supposed to link to other stores: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...0fp35166c0s441

That's an awesome deal! If I was in the market for a player, or if I had a buyer for my S545, I'd definitely pick another one of these up.....I use my Clip+ pretty much every day.

I just paid $50 for a 4GB at Best Buy. It was too late to order it, and I had to have it here by next Monday, my wife's birthday.

It is very tempting. I should buy one for a backup. I can't get that kind of deal locally, that's for sure.

Be warned if you buy anything from Dell you may never be able to stop getting junk mail from them. I don't know if you mind that. It sure is a hell of a deal. I wonder if a new model is coming or something. Woot sold 4gb Clip+ refurbs for $20 last week and I thought that was amazing, but brand new 8gb for $40 is even better.

Agree with 8GB Clip+ @ 40USD is a massive steal! Prolly go do it myself...

As for junk email...am kinda surprised you even are concerned about that stuff these days. I have several ecommerce only email accounts at Yahoo and GMail that I only use for online stuff [forums, ordering, etc] - while a step above throwaway email addys, they serve really only this one purpose and I couldn't care less how much spam hits them. Actually, I have 1 email address at Yahoo that gets 500 spam emails a day - this particular account has been active for over 8-10 years.

My super private email addresses only go out to close friends, family and certain business associates - and even then I am picky... ...But even so, some spam does of course slip by - i consider it an unavoidable sign of the times myself.

I can't be the only who does this?

Wow, can't believe my luck on seeing this post - I had the screen pulled up at Amazon getting ready to buy for $54.99; zipped on over to Dell and got it for a grand total of $43.40 (had to pay tax, but standard shipping was free). Thanks for the heads up!!

No problem. Like I said, I actually saw this at Head-Fi. It is a hell of a deal.

I too jumped on this offer. I've been looking to replace my broken e270 which was Rockbox'ed before I broke it.
I ordered it on 6/8 and 3 days later, Dell is still listing it as "in production", and is not accepting new sales orders (out of stock). How long does Dell usually take to ship their items?
Also - a quick RB on Clip+ question - with the current release of RB, if you insert the USB and charge the unit, does it charge, or do you have to reboot into the OF manually first?

When you plug in USB, the Clip+ will automatically boot into the OF.

Just got this from Dell this morning - they waited a week to send this:

We wanted to let you know that there is a delay with one or more items in your order.

Based on the latest available information, we have adjusted the estimated delivery date
and are confident your order will be delivered on or before this new date.
(see Revised Estimated Delivery Date below)

We apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience.

Revised Estimated Delivery Date
Order Number Product Description Revised Est.
Delivery Date

XXXXXXXXX 8 GB Sansa Clip MP3 Player - B lack
07/01/2010

-----------------

July 1st?!?!? I've got a question - if the small size is NOT of utmost importance to me, should I spring for a few $$$ more and get the Fuze in the meantime, and cancel this order? I'm figuring that since Rockbox will be stable on the Fuze shortly, and with its bigger screen, I'd likely end up liking it more than a clip - I have plenty of pocket-t shirts that I wear on a daily basis, therefore portability is really not an overwhelming concern (and the clip might be cumbersome or awkward looking - like a square third nipple inside my shirt pocket if I'm wearing a t-shirt - I'd have to clip it on top of the pocket, or the end of a sleeve).

That is what I do with my Clip+....clip it to the top of the T-shirt pocket.

Clip/+ and Fuze are basically identical in terms of their sound quality AFAIK.

Differences:
- Clip/+ has shorter battery life [best reported Rockbox time I have seen is around 15 hours I believe];
- Clip/+ smaller screen = no album art, videos;
- Clip/+ uses a standard mini USB cable to connect to PC;

- Fuze has larger screen, video capable, longer battery life [around 20+ hours] but also uses a PROPRIETARY USB connector. Also, the Fuze does have a flatter profile than the Clip/+ so your T-shirt thing might work better with the Fuze. However, the Clip/+ is so incredibly tiny and light, you could use the clip and attach it to your sleeve or belt loop, pretty much anywhere, so I have been told.

That's pretty much it as far as the major differences between the Fuze and the CLip/+ to the best of my knowledge.

cheers and good luck,
-lestatar

Personally, unless you want the video, I'd stick with the Clip; the tiny size and light weight (if it falls, it bounces; if the Fuze falls, it dents) really is handy. And in the grand scheme of things, a few more weeks will pass quickly, although I understand the frustration.

You forgot the most important part of the Fuze, which is the scroll wheel. The Clip+ lacks the wheel, however the Clip+ has dedicated volume controls which the Fuze doesn't have. Why can't Sandisk give us a player with both a scroll wheel and dedicated volume buttons, which has a standard mini USB connector? It would be even nicer though if it also has an easily swappable battery.
