Ahh well I apologize it was kinda crude I guess.

But still...I seriously can't believe Samsung...I mean this is such a perfect player! Plays everything....but stability is 0.

I'm like wanting this player since the day it was announced!

But all these silly bugs have really made me almost give up on it.

It's like I'll be spending $100 on a thing which I don't know when will crap out....coz all the firmwares produce the bugs the way I see it.

So very dejected none the less.

I might jump ship to P3 at least that's available locally for me...or I might hold on for the iRiver S100 to launch.

That's almost a replica of R0 but I'm sure it should be stable enough!

two down for me, and that's with MTP on. the firmware stability's embarrasing, to be honest. much like a phone of theirs i had - fantastic hardware, godawful software.

last samsung i'm getting, and i'm certainly warning anyone else off them in future.

Know what!? I might as well buy this player.

Yeah what the hell...waited so damn long for this thing!

So you guys just tell me if this will be ok -

I will get my player. Unpack it. Turn it on & Put it in "MSC" mode. Turn it off. Then connect it on the PC. Charge/Transfer etc. Not install Emodio. Transfer with Windows Media Player & Winamp. Usual thing.

I will not upgrade the firmware (what's the use? It's only addressing stability issues anyway)

So am I good to go in "MSC" mode? with whatever firmware the player comes with?

Or that too is a No-Go & I should forget this player all together?

Unless your R0 comes in firmware 1.10 or 1.22 you have to upgrade the firmware.
All other firmwares may be dangerous, even in MSC mode.

I use the fw 1.22 and no problem yet for me.
I've never managed to brick my R0 in fw 1.22, even using the problematic files of some users here.

So guide me here pls.

I'll get my R0. Turn it on. Put it in MSC mode. Turn it off.

Connect to PC. Put the Firmware file in the directory. wait for 10 mins for the player to charge a bit.

Disconnect & let it update the firmware.

Then turn it off. Put it back in MSC mode.

Connect to PC & transfer things.

Is this good procedure good enough?

I don't want to mess with formatting or any other thing.

I'll just follow these steps then am I good to go?

Thanks.

Yes that should be fine.

But even like that it cannot be 100% safe. There's always a risk to brick the player since not all causes of the library update bug have been found and fixed yet. Following your steps you can only reduce the risk

I've to force removing the usb cable manually; with the safe disconnection he reconnects just afterward
anybody have this issue too?

SAMSUNG SUCKS.
worst thing I did was that I purchased R0 from a seller in USA. I live in INDIA.
updated with firmware 1.22 changed PC Connection to MSC.
For few weeks player worked fine. But after loading some .mp3 songs I encountered famous "updating library" error.
This product is full of bugs, regret that I have not bought p3.
Labellium is there a workaroud to "reset" this player(it is not possible for me to send back product to US, further no warranty in INDIA)
Thanks in advance

My player came with fw1.19
I manually installed firmware .rom file(1.22) in internal storage(not through emo dio).
However my player was in MTP mode while I upgraded it.After that I changed to MSC mode and transferred some FLAC and divx files to it, every thing was fine & I was living a happy life then one day I loaded it with some .mp3 files and rest is history.

Why it is not possible to make new firmware on firmware base of already established product like samsung p3?
Anyway I think Samsung should Re-write r0 firmware from scratch instead of correcting bugs here and there or recall this player(it is not possible for everyone to visit service centre).

.................................................. ....................................
So, 1.22 has not resolved library bug.
Probable causes:-
virus in file.
file format (encoding) is unknown to player.
File name/tags causing conflict.
File size causing system to hang(unable to cope with large data).
some file went to player(like .nfo file or other, usually accompanied with downloaded content)which player don't understand.
FW developers are not competent enough.
God knows.
.................................................. ..................................
anything but r0
.................................................. .................................
update: no longer samsung mp3 player user.bye bye samsung

I'm sorry for you. We know there is no 100% safe firmware.
But Samsung consider they fixed the bug in fw 1.22 as long as I don't send to them customers files.
For the moment I did not get any file from customer in fw 1.22 so there is no way to reproduce the bug and fix it. Maybe you can help me
The only thing you can try is to press the reset button after the "system checking" for example. It worked for 2 people only but we never know...

Regarding re-writing the firmware, of course it is impossible. With their current roadmap they have no time to release simple firmwares for current models so how would they have time to rewrite the firmware?
What is clear is that since mobile phone and mp3 players divisions merged, there are not enough resources dedicated to mp3 players.

I think people are going "safe way"
People are buying other trusted players like cowons.
I sincerely believe "if" R0 gets stable firmware AND Fm/voice recorder it will be a "killer".

Are you talking about R0 or Q3?
Q3 is not yet launched.
Bug in R0 is "library update" error and the only remedy seems to be that send player to Samsung Service center.
If you plan to buy R0, buy only if you have option to return the player or atleast get it repaired (in case).
Of course Samsung will release new firmware in future for R0 but timing is not known ,also, whether they will be able to provide stable firmware is not known.

Oh will they?
The library bug is supposed to be fixed in the firmware 1.22 so they won't release any new firmware except if I can show them this bug still occurs in fw 1.22 sometimes.
So honestly, the release of a new firmware rather depends on you and me

I have no doubts regarding your harassment ability(Samsung released firmware for U5, I think ,recently because of you).
We are counting on you.
btw,as few members are posting in this thread it seems people are losing interest in this player.

Indeed, it seems people are losing interest in this player. Personnaly I have never experienced the library bug on my 2 R0s. I've tried to brick them many times, I used the same files than the unlucky users but no way to brick them. So for me the firmware 1.22 is fine. I don't personally need another firmware. It's really for the other R0 users that I try to get a new firmware. It's a pity for them if they don't want to help me. BTW, there are several people on a Russian website who are still involved and have bugs to report to me

Two (one could argue minor) bugs I experience with the R0, firmware 1.22:

- I operate the player in MSC mode. When I tell the computer to disconnect the player (like it should be done for a USB storage device) it disconnects and then immediately reconnects and makes itself available again; the interval is about one second. I have to be really quick to pull out the USB-cable before it mounts again.
This is on a Mac with OSX 10.6.4 but i believe I've seen a post somewhere on this forum stating the same problem on a Windows machine.

- Display of tags / album art only for MP3 files. Why not for AAC?

Same here. Maybe this bug (disconnect/reconnect) can damage the player? I'll try to switch it to MTP mode.

Switching to MTP is not a good idea either. Reading through the messages on the forum it seems that most people who encountered the dreaded "library update" bug that bricked their players were operating in MTP mode. We don't know if it that issue has been completely fixed in 1.22.
